Most of those pre-existing condition people wouldn't even be allowed in the military unless some jackass fucktard recruiter decided to let someone in by fudging their documents, which has been known to happen.. A LOT. However, good luck at SURVIVING Basic... What does the military care? that's one less person to insure/house/feed anyways, and they can get their numbers from somewhere else, or another recruiter fudging paperwork.

Tricare is major fail.. but it's better than nothing at all at the same time, at the least I can afford my medications and occasionally see a doctor, and ER visits are free, without it I'd still be on Primatene , which was taken off the market a while back (though I think I've seen it back on the shelves again), and wondering how much the next doctor visit is going to cost out of pocket, then I'd have been royally screwed.

As far as health care reform goes, it does need reform, I just don't know what kind. As someone pointed out: the consumer is blind to the details of the system and "why a 5 minute scan costs in the thousands".

Ironically the Army is using the "Economic Crisis" to scare people into re-enlisting... Sad that they should feel the need to scare people into wanting to serve their country for a bit longer.

I sometimes think that America is it's own biggest terrorist since they love using scare tactics to get people to do what they want.

Looks like the big bill announced today is a lot like the MA system...

They could always do what britan has and do like two systems, public and private, and you can choose to go to whichever you want. Or maybe having a while two options is too complicated for politicians. :awesome:

I know I made a smart ass remark there, I'm not so ignorant to not know that before I typed it.

I don't know what experiences you've had with a recruiter, but being a former detailed or temporary recruiter (which is what the majority of recruiters are), I can promise I've NEVER "fudged any documents" and wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had. I assure it was more than likely with a true 79R These are people who, for whatever reason, felt they couldn't or wouldn't be a part of the real Army and became permanent recruiters... so basically... fuck those guys.

I've already stated Tricare is far from perfect, but it has taken care of my deviated septum.

I'm going to have to say, this comment is pretty inaccurate. The Army's been around a lot longer than any of us, over 234 years actually. I doubt the "Army" itself is doing anything of the sort. I'd like to know where you got those facts. What I am sad about is that it took an "economic crisis" for people to use the Army or any other branch of service as their "last resort." Which frankly, is where you get the majority of your douche bags that join the Armed Forces. FTUs as I call'em... Fat, Tired, and Useless.

btw, for every fucktard of a recruiter fudging paperwork, there's a fucktard drill sergeant pushing them through basic training.

oh yeah, if I sound like too much of a dick, I tried not to, but I'm still a bit loopy from surgery and medication

This is sad and true as well... if they survive basic with a pre-existing condition. I also never said that all recruiters are fucktards that fudge paperwork, its just seems that it's very common that there are fucktards out there that do.

I also suppose it depends on what division of the army you are in, what your MOS is on how they treat their people.

I'm sure in other places it's better, but it seems for guys here who aren't all hoo-hah, they are using the economic crisis to try to get them to re-enlist. "At least in the Army you will have a constant paycheck and health benefits"

As for where I get my info, my husband is in the Army, and from what I know Ft Hood isn't exactly the greatest place to get stationed. In fact I've heard that it's the worst, so maybe location has a lot to do with it.. I can't wait to gtfo this crapland.

I've never been on the enlisted side, but I imagine there is probably a difference between Os and Es when it comes to benefits as well, but that's just a guess on my part.

I can't wait to see Hey, Shipwreck's creator's new series about recruiters, it should be hilarious.

As I'm sure you probably know, there's a lot of resentment between Enlisted and Officers...

Heh - that's where my father was stationed out of before they shipped him off during Vietnam - he still has a rather crude tattoo on his arm they used to try to get everyone there to get of Texas. Tangentially related - there's a long going resentment between army and VA hospitals - mostly because of the poor quality of their doctors (in decades past at least). My late grandfather (WWII vet), all his acquaintances, my father, and just about everyone he knew absolutely refused to use those health benefits unless there was no other choice. I think the only thing that got my dad into one of those places was a metal spike through the arm while he was working for close to minimum wage in NC back in the 70s.

Jimmy Carter won in 2002. Al Gore won in 2007. Now Obama has won in 2009. I'm sensing a trend here. Perhaps the prize should be renamed to the 'He's not Bush' award since that's really the only accomplishment those three have managed. Well, maybe Carter's was deserved. He has tried to do a lot of good since he left the White House. He has actually achieved much, but he has tried.

Oddly a couple weeks ago I was reading an article that pointed out in other fields such as physics the winner is rewarded for achievements decades old. That way they have the perspective of time to see if those achievements actually had any influence or were eventually proven to be a crackpot theory. The prize for Lit and Peace don't have that delay, so it ends up being a lot more politicized. Arafat and Kissinger for example both won because they promised to stop bombing civilians (not that Arafat actually kept his promise).

Anyway, lesson of the day is if you want to win a Nobel Peace Prize then you need to either be a democrat US politician or kill a bunch of random people then promise to stop at some vague point in the future.
