Why are amv's like street fighter.

Postby Fall_Child42 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:35 am

Now everytime I load up Street Fighter IV to play online, I always seem to encounter numerous Kens.

Image

I'm not sure what the attraction of Ken is to players, some think it's because of the Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Diago Video, some say it's because Ken is simple to use and does what look like impressive combos, and some even state that people want to play as a shoto, but they simply hate Ryu Akuma or Dan. Hating Akuma Ryu and Dan makes you a racist like president Glen Beck. Now this is not true of everyone, but many of the ken players I have encountered are what is know in the SRK community as "Scrubs". Players that are new to the game and they only know how to do one thing, and they lack the experience or willingness to learn new strategies or techniques.

Image

These techniques are used in the matches over and over again, despite the fact they are completely uneffective.

As with fighting many many kens, I also seem to be encountering the same types of AMVs over and over again. People in the AMV community will blame this on several factors. Some say it's due to the ease of getting AE, Some say it's because effects are easy to do, Some say it's due to nostromo's Galaxy bounce video, some say it's due to Nostromo's aruiga video, some even say it's due to Nostromo's Running man video. Hating running man makes you a racist like President Rush Limbaugh. Much like Ken scrubs shoryukening all day long (and i mean this litteraly, from the time the poor their cereal into the bowl by shoryukening the box, to the time their head shoryukens the pillow at night. At which time they dream about shoryukening the face of god who subsequently blocks and punishes with the most amazing ultracombo that mankind is not at liberty to see.) AMV Scrubs will use the same tired effects, footage, and ideas over and over again. Personally I am not familliar with After Effects, but when Niotex watches these videos he screams incoherently about riot gear, tutorials, and then proceeds to break down and cry, coalescing in him sitting silently, drooling on himself for a half hour. He is a broken man due to AMV scrubs. Now, much like the ken players of SFIV, there are a few AMV makers that use these effects and similar scenes and do a very good job. But sadly they are few and far between.

PART II

How I personally relate to AMVs and Street Fighter.

For some odd reason, I end up choosing the very low tier characters to play. No Street Fighter is lower tier that Dan in SFIV, so of course I main Dan.
Image

Dan however has alot of character, he is a blast to watch, and has this amazing personality and originality that other characters just don't have. When it comes to AMVs I also tend to choose low tier stuff. I pick unpopular anime, music nobody likes, and my effects work is lackluster at best. I try and do well with them, and win or lose I had a ton of fun playing, because the music and anime I chose has a ton of personality (for me at least) Something I find lacking in a bunch of AMVs. (I'm looking at you Kens.)

Therefore. AMVs are Street Fighter IV

Everyone always chooses Ken.

But who then is our Justin Wong who shall always be remembered for getting full parried by Daigo? Like the SF scene there are some AMV fanbois out there but they are fanbois of the anime used or the music not the creators.

This post becomes irrelevant once you realize that Fall_Child is a very popular and successful AMV creator.

Also you have no idea about "music nobody likes".

And Niotex just needs to get laid.

I know tons about music nobody likes.
Much like how I know tons about Dan fighting strategies.

But the fanbois always remember him getting pwned! To have a succesful scene you need haters! We need somone to draw their aggro and amvs will have truly arrived!

P.S.

Jwong is definitely incredible player. I knew as soon as you linked what that was gonna be hehe. For amusement purposes I offer you this fine clip of JP SF Scene humor

People who fight in the streets.

So basically, AMVs are gangsters. Or "gangstahs" if you are of the ghetto persuasion.
