Something about looking at a blue pecker the whole film likely will be enough to convince me to download it later if I absolutely must.

If it dies at the box office I will just got with my friends review and assume it didn't live up to the promise.

It appears the film has little value to non Watchmen fans though.

Hubby and I saw it on Friday night and we both loved it. I'm a fan of the graphic novel (from back when it was just comic books) and I thought Snyder did an excellent job of translating it to the screen. The visuals and atmosphere were perfect and the whole thing captured the nihilistic and gritty feel of the story.

They'll never be nominated, but Jackie Earle Haley and Billy Crudup deserve Oscars for their performances (Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan). They took the two most inscrutable characters and managed to imbue them with humanity and emotion. Rorschach was both a psychotic and sympathetic character---Haley's acting and facial expressions at the very end were heartbreaking. And Crudup managed to convey both Dr. Manhattan's isolation from humanity as well as his deeply-buried affection for it.

Nitpicky fanbois will probably piss and moan on the finer details, but on the whole, I think the "unfilmable" graphic novel was filmed amazingly well.

Great job on the song choices as well---very appropos.

By far the best review I've read of the film is by Kurt Loder, elder statesman of MTV:

Yeah, they not only make Ozymandias look like an idiot, but now Niteowl as well :\

It always struck me more as "He expects them to do this, and is making it easy".

Wasn't terribly impressed. It was okay, I didn't mind seeing it, and was entertained by it, but it was lacking. I think people's perceptions of it will vary depending on how much they like the graphic novel, or how into it they are. If you've never read the graphic novel, you're going to miss a lot of stuff, and I think the movie holds up even less from just a stand-alone perspective. Also the soundtrack was kindof jarring. Good soundtrack, but applied in a weird fashion.

i agree with the comments on the soundtrack... lots of really well known songs so it made me lose some focus on the movie however at the same time it makes me want to buy it since there were several songs i liked used...

I enjoyed the movie for the most part and i think it was worth watching, and this is from someone who knows jack shit about the comic book

I don't know about that. Manipulating them into thinking they're clever and cracking the mystery is right up Ozy's alley. Otherwise, what would be the fun?

The fun would be wiring the computer to explode when the password he left out is entered.

Yeah, I was impressed that they didn't wimp out on the full monty. I wondered how they were going to handle that, assuming they addressed it at all.

Nice to see Dr. Manhattan letting it all hang out. Luckily, there were no "ground up" shots when he was 50 feet tall.
