That was me about 4 days ago.

Then I read the comic. Now I have a reason to.

Comic =   must-read (and I say that as someone who's never had any interest in comic book lore)
Movie = will tell you probably on Monday

Kinda looking forward to it though - all it has to deliver for me is just a good visualization, for the rest I can read the comic again anyway.

I plan to go Saturday. I have high hopes, which will probably be dashed into a million pieces, but oh well.
I love to wear absurd and totally impractical garments. What's more, I derive great pleasure from spending time with women for no apparent reason.

I watched Billy Crudup's interview about Watchmen on The Daily Show earlier today. Does that count?

On one hand I love the comic so want to see the movie because of that. On the other, I've read the comic enough to have practically memorized it so the movie holds few surprises so don't particularly want to see the movie because I know what will happen (although I heard the end is somewhat different which is good since the comics end sucks). I mean I have yet to see a screen shot or trailer where I don't know exactly what scene it came from and probably even what the dialog was in that scene. That plus I'm not wild about how they did the characters. Comedian looks like a pussy. Silk Spectre looks astoundingly unsexy for a woman dressed in all latex. Dr Manhattens blue glow thing just looks stupid. Nite Owl looks like a Batman wannabe (although that actually isn't all that inappropriate but still doesn't come off well). Ozymandias just looks like a faggot (like Nite Owl, that actually isn't all that inappropriate). Rorschach is the only one who actually looks like the character should look.

I got a friend that wants to see it. I'll probably go with him. If not, in a year or two I'll just pirate the thing.

Just saw it.

Saw the first four chapters of the animated comic book before I went to see the movie.

Glad I did, probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much otherwise.

If you don't know what you're getting into, be warned it's kinda slow, don't expect a lot of action.

Music selection was laughable at times, but enjoyable.

Yeah, that's one thing that's putting me off in the trailers right now. What the heck did they do to him?

Spoiler :
I actually liked Ozymandias original character design quite a bit, and his "good-hero" look and positive behaviour has actually allayed my suspicions about him until right before Rorschach and Nite Owl got to his headquarters and figured out he was up to something.

As it stands, though, the movie Ozymandias seems to be screaming "look at me I'm the scheming villain of the story". Which I think ruins it a bit...

About Ozymandias

Spoiler :
The cool thing about the book is if you re-read it there are clues everywhere that he's the uhh bad guy isn't exactly the right term here. Opposition perhaps? Hell, the triangle in a circle with a partial V is one of the recurring visual symbols of the series although it's often done as a reference to the smiley face as well. A lot of his facial expressions in flashbacks and his conversation with Rorschach hint there's a more going on than is apparent at first glance. Even his comment 'Tell them I have no enemies' after his assassination attempt is a statement of fact and a hint rather than the irony it appears to be. And it wasn't just Veidt either, on rereading it was so obvious who Rorschach is when he doesn't have the mask that I was surprised I didn't pick it up until the reveal. It's a really well put together detective story with hints everywhere. I've always thought it was a crying shame that this realistic like take on comic heroes climaxed with a giant telepathic teleporting alien. The last two issues destroy the entire 'what would these people be like if they lived in the real world' thing.

I never read the comic. The movie makes me want to actually read it now. It's nice having a movie I don't have to watch with my Fiancee. She hated it mostly due to Dr. Manhattan's big blue balls, a fact that she made annoyingly clear the whole way home.

Rorschach: "Meeting with Veidt left bad taste in mouth. He is pampered and decadent, betraying even his own shallow, liberal affectations. Possibly homosexual? Must remember to investigate further."

Isn't he British? From another clip I saw of him it sounded like he was struggling with an accent.

Nite Owl looks like a Batman wannabe (although that actually isn't all that inappropriate but still doesn't come off well).

Did you also note the Bat Nipples?

Comedian looks like a pussy.

Really? I thought he looked more like Robert Downey Jr.?
Spoiler :
Even though I'm expecting you to say, he looks gay too.

Either way I'm expecting the dvd release to be more satisfying than theatrical release, with added content and all.

Saw it last night. Was meh. Best part were the opening + credits. I was completely fine with the "big" change to the end of the movie, but all of the minor changes around it? Pretty unecessary. Also, the pacing of the movie was fucked. They spent way too much time on the first half, and not enough of the second half, which screwed over Veidt's character (taking out his backstory made him a much weaker character). When you have issues of a comic book, you can have each issue have a climax while still building to the climax of the entire story. This, however, does not work when you try to have a dozen mini-climaxes in a film.

Also, one part in which I hated in the graphic novel, they made even WORSE (which is when Niteowl figures out a certain someone's incredibly easy password; instead of making hte scene a bit smarter, they instead made it dumber by having it be the title of a book on the shelf. The hell).

At the very least, I was entertained enough. I did not feel like I had wasted my money or my three hours watching the film.

/facepalm

Seriously? That was one of just a few things I didn't like about the book and that I wish was done differently. How could they possibly make that even dumber? :|
Not a big deal, but one of those things that takes away some of the immersion in the realism of it all. Kinda like that thing at the end which godix mentioned as well.

Yeah, they not only make Ozymandias look like an idiot, but now Niteowl as well :\
