Sleep Editing

Postby Zarxrax » Mon Jan 19, 2009 5:50 pm

Some studies have indicated that the brain may be at it's most creative moments during REM sleep. Through lucid dreaming techniques, some people are able to consciously induce these moments in order to engage in problem solving during sleep.

I have personally experienced this at least once, where in a dream I saw the most freakishly amazing car accident of my life, complete with huge explosions and copious amounts of slow motion across multiple miles of highway.

Is this the next big breakthrough for AMVs?

If you can get past the horrifying experience of sleep paralysis enough to try it - go for it!

Or you could always just say you're sleep-[verb-ing] while taking Ambian and suffering from memory loss - most people are still to stupid to pick up on the subtle differences.

I was just thinking we could all edit while high on crack, but that works too.

I already do this.

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to dump the images off my mind.

I am quite serious, I have editing dreams, but my capabilities are much inferior in real life.

I haven't even gotten around to drunk editing yet, so this is still a ways off for me.

I think car accidents are definately the new thing when it comes to AMVs. untill we get tired of them and are like "Man you used car accidents way too much in your last video"

My last dream involved running from zombies and stuff at one of my previous addresses with some of my old RL friends... I think a l4d binge that night had something to do with it. Dunno how that could help with amv's.

I've had dreams that I've used for my writing classes at Uni, creative writing seminars. I doubt I could have a dream that would effect my editing directly. It would be hard to correlate FX ideas to a dream unless I somehow had a dream about an anime I had watched the night before or something... IDK...

It may be our most creative time but its not all that controlling if any, other then self-conscious decisions in the dream itself...
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I had a dream in which I had a great idea for an AMV, and started editing it, and it was going really well. I woke up pretty excited to start the project for real, but as soon as I was properly awake I realised that the footage I was editing with didn't exist. It was a real series (GitS-SAC I think), but the episodes I was using were a figment of my dream. :(
