definition of a lost cause

Postby Sukunai » Fri Oct 10, 2008 2:14 pm

Any time one makes a claim and is incapable of providing verifiable evidence, the person might as well not bother making the claim.

Case in point claiming any form of education is quite pointless if a respondent can reply with "prove it" and you can't.

Most dick contests are utterly pointless. Especially when they can't even defend against a school ground grade response.

Copy pasted charts are statistics are equally valueless. One can quote persons and reports till hell freezes over, and a respondent need only reply that the "facts" have been falsified.

The current popular hot topic is the state of international economies. Barring an end of the world result, I suspect it will return to the oft fav topic of Global Warming (which some prefer to re label Climate Change).

Politics and religion are also hit favourites.

The recent thread which was closed is a good example. Two groups that clearly knew more than the other. Well that is the attitude expressed.
And at the end of the day, I think all that matters is who gives a shit.

I have fortunately learned one over riding truth on the net.
If a site has nothing for you to buy, and or nothing to give you for free, then it is quite possible the site isn't entirely worth worrying over.

I am a donator because I appreciate the downloads of the amvs.
I certainly haven't been donating to have pointless unwinable arguments.
But in the interest in not telling people what they can or can not do here, I won't deny you your preferrence to have stupid unwinable arguments :)
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

I'm not quite sure what the point of this thread is... I kind of felt while reading this that it was an indirect attempt to have a final word in that last topic but honesty it seems like a self-realization on what really matters in life when someone is faced with an argument either side is not willing to concede defeat on.

So, all I will really say is this: This forum is provided to facilitate off-topic discussion among donators. Regardless of the amount and reasons people have donated, there are still rules that apply here to everyone. If two people choose to have a heated argument that looks like it will get out of hand, please either drop it or take it to an outside channel such as AIM or private messaging.

my goal isn't to win the argument, it's just to have the argument. and it's nothing personal.

I'm getting a PhD in that. Which is why I'm staying out of (above) Sukunai's debates :uhoh:

Just once you might want to consider that maybe this is a list of thing to be avoided instead of a howto for internet arguments.

Argument of the Beard has always been one of my favorites, sadly it is not on the list.

I had to look that one up. What type of addled brain crack fiend would even try this argument? This is without a doubt the single dumbest thing I've ever heard of since, well, the last time I read a Sukunai post.

You'd be (or perhaps not be) surprised. It's used many times especially when concerning things like fisheries or deforestation.
