The Canadian Copywrite hysteria of the moment.

Postby Sukunai » Tue Jun 03, 2008 3:52 pm

Sooo are you part of the hysteria, or are you aware of the actual process of getting legislation passed?

It seems every forum (accept this one it seems) that I have been on today is awash in some legislation the Canadian government is trying to sneak in on us.

Don't tell me you can't find the article either, no one is that dumb :)

Ahh so you already know what the bullshit feels like then :)

It sure will suck going back to 1970. But I at least know how.

This legislation sure will screw with a lot of the younguns though.

Worst case scenario I lose any reason to continue paying for expensive broadband internet and my son can figure out how to play World of Warcraft on his own :)

If I don't "need" broadband, I sure ain't paying for it. No broadband just means I take a lot more money to Anime North. No 30 bucks a month, no newshosting service, that basically comes out to 720 bucks. I can buy quite a lot of anime dvd sets with that :)

It would suck having to figure out how to get my tv shows though.

Normally I don't like being ambushed with videos that involve swearing, but in this case I think it's actually appropriate :)

If we've already got all the canadians in one spot, we can eliminate the dangerous hostages!

Online Rights Canada has a nice form email for you to send to your MP protesting this legislation. I've sent it to mine. The bill was just introduced today, so plenty of time for it to get shot down.

Now we can just hope for the Liberal party, who have spoken out against the bill, to show a little backbone for once. If this goes through, ripping a DVD will be illegal, which would kinda put a crimp in things.
