"Sync" or "Synch"

Postby BasharOfTheAges » Mon Jul 09, 2007 7:36 pm

I keep wavering back and forth and see others spelling it both ways (in the forums, in the different guides, on different dictionary websites, etc.)... which is more correct (if either)? I kinda have this MEP - so I wanted it right in the title and all...

I don't think either one is particularly correct, but personally, I've always preferred Synch over Sync, as sync has seemed sorta trashy to me (perhaps because of a certain band  )

Sync is the preferred spelling, but synch is a viable alternative according to the dictionary.

I believe it's short for "synchronization," correct? Which has an 'h' in it. And who's to tell you how to abbreviate, so long as people understand? I personally use "sync" because it's shorter and phonetically appropriate. And I am master grammatician, so do what I do. And stuff.

I think Sync is the correct way to do it, but I always spell it Synch. -shrug-
(In other words, I agree with Flint)

It also has a 'sync' in it before the 'h' :P

Ok, that was one of the assumptions i made... British vs American English spelling - if that's true it explains it, thanks.

Right, which is why I say 'sync' and why I was defending both spellings. I consider abbreviations in general to be informal and thus flexible. The point is to be short while still making sense, and I don't know many people that get confused by 'synch'.

the REALLY important question is:

Do we care? Personally i prefer synch, but i could care less what others call it.
