Were You Stupid Enough to Upgrade to iOS 6? If not, DON'T!

I feel sorry for you, bro. I'm currently working on another article/sticky for the Mac Forum on how to get the most out of your older iDevices running iOS 5 (video/amv relevant), but it largely requires jailbreak and a few other things which Apple has locked down in iOS 6 and on the iPhone 5.

I didn't expect iOS 6 to be such total crap, or I would have worked on this article/sticky before people started jumping on the iOS 6 bandwagon because there is currently no way to downgrade.

tl;dr DON'T UPGRADE TO iOS 6 IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO RUN 720p/1080p 30FPS on your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch without reencoding!!!

I put this here so more people would see it. Lots of non-Mac owners own iDevices.

Castor, what model iDevice do you have, and does it run 1080p? And furthermore does it run 60fps?

I've downloaded a number of players to compare, even paid for a few, and none can run 60fps on my iPhone 4/iPad 1, and only a few can handle 1080p. I'm trying to use the A4 processor with 256MBs of RAM as my baseline. If I can get everything to run on that, then running on the A5 and A5X with higher amounts of RAM should be very easy.

I don't really put 1080p videos on my iphone. The highest resolution I put is 720p at most.

Right, but Do you spend time to downscale? That's what I'm trying to avoid. I want to surf to AMV Annoucements, grab a video via Dolphin, and play it without having to consider its resolution. I use my iPhone 4 nearly as much as my MacBook. This is especially true because of my long commute times. If I have to downscale, it defeats the point. Largely because I can't do it on the train.

A note, I have fast, unlimited data in Japan. It's expensive ($100/mo), but it's true unlimited, no throttling, and I call the US and Australia all the time. But still everyone benefits from avoiding reencodes. Takes time and planning.
