I actually like summers but jebus the current heat index sweaping across eastern USA right now is murda. it was 104 yesterday here and our boss got us all quiet last night during a meeting, turns out a mother of 3 died from heat exhaustion yesterday who apparently works there on a different shift. It's terrible to hear of stuff like that but at the same time I guess it does emphasize caution.

I ended up even buying some bottled water incase I go outside (determined not to, might not even jog this weekend), this is madness. I ain't seen heat like this since a severe drought in kansas with 100+, ironically kentucky is in a drought right now, though not severe. Luckily it might rain tuesday, if it doesn't and considering how dry it is, I'm expecting july 4th fires and/or event cancelations.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

We've already been told that 4th of july activities are cancelled. :(

The summer here has been brutal because we had a really dry May and it's been nearly a solid 2 months without any rain. I don't so much mind the heat, but it's the fire danger and the farm crop death that gets to me. :uhoh:

Yesterday a man was mowing his lawn, hit a rock, and caused a wildfire throughout his entire pasture. Luckily, the fire department stopped it from spreading, but it was REALLY close to my house. <_<

Our farming friends also are screwed. Their water bill is astronomical. >_>

And I BET that some jackass is still going to fire off fireworks. D:

Mandatory online components to college courses.

Courses that rely on mandatory solitary reading, which try to fake the way out of this isolation by "discussions" online.

When will the university system get that the internet is a terrible place for serious intellectual debate.

Horrible thoughts. Example from work: a mentally handicapped individual had no perception/control of volume, and so he shouted things and made sudden loud cries, and the first unbidden thought in my mind was, "Would somebody shut him the fuck up?"

And then I immediately felt like a dick.

I will say in my defense, however, that having the thought and voicing the thought is all the difference in what kind of person you are. It can be hard to stop the sudden impulse to say something in irritation, but every time I do, I feel like I've made a little progress in maturity.

Agreed. You don't have to be your own thought police if you have some control over your actions. It's like drunken loud bums getting on busses or subway trains. Everybody sitting nearby is probably annoyed like mad but nobody does anything. Somebody might think that it's a sign of how alienated our society is but I rather like it.

I hate it when someone steals my bike three weeks after I bought it.

I probably didn't lock it properly. Whoever it was left my helmet locked up behind.
