Nexon takes $50, may ban me for demanding service.

Postby Cla The Ninja » Tue Nov 29, 2011 4:07 pm

(Nexon is a video game company that produces "free-to-play" games that you can play for free, or pay as little or as much money as you'd like to get more out of the experience)

Over a month ago, I bought $50 worth of pre-paid Nexon cards. For some unknown reason, they didn't work. I filed a Support Ticket, but over a month later, it remains unanswered. (though they had time to call me for an interview to help them make more money in my area)

Anyway, I made a thread in Nexon's forums giving them a time limit of 10 days before I pursue legal action. According to random members, Nexon can ban me for this.

http://forum2.nexon.net/showthread.php?116917

I'm sharing the link to this thread with as many websites as I can because I want Nexon to understand that they can't mess with customer's money and think they can just hide the scam under a rug. I want the public to see how this unfolds and question Nexon about it in the case something shady does go down.

Thanks for reading. And thanks for any support I may get.

I understand the frustration with losing $50 (heck, I've lost $150 recently in a similar aggrivating manner), but is legal recourse (which will likely be expensive and time consuming, resulting in a absorption of more than just monetary costs) and a threatening forum post really the best way to resolve it?

Have you tried anything other than a support ticket? E-mail? Phone calls?

I'll be the first to admit that most companies like this can be complete assholes, it's still generally a better idea to catch flies with honey than vinegar.

I'm pretty sure customer support tickets are the only way of getting support from nexon. As in no phone numbers or emails. That in itself is poor customer service.

It is only 50 dollars but if you think about it, alot of potentially money saving events have been lost, like for example cyber monday.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

As having once worked in the Customer Service industry I can happily say: I despise customers like you.

THIS.

On a more substantial note, being banned for such a hissy fit comes as no surprise to me. I worked both retail and customer service for several years, and threatening legal action was a 100% guarantee of not getting any help whatsoever. In most places, the policy is such that if you do, the employee is required to immediately cease any and all interaction with you save to refer you to corporate or to the legal department. This is because the employees are NOT authorized to act as legal representatives for the company (there's a reason most companies have legal counsel on the payroll, or at least on retainer). By taking the legal action stance, you have effectively removed any incentive or ability they may have had to help you with your problem. Granted, it was their fault for the screwup in the first place. But it is YOUR fault for simply doing a "fire and forget" support ticket, then waving the lawyer-cannon at them when, a month later, you decide "oh hey, I haven't heard from them in a while". You should have allowed them a few days to respond, then began following up through any contact channels you could find.

If you pulled that crap in my store, I would have given you corporate's number and then walked away. If you were one of my callers, I would have pulled my headset on you (disconnects the call, but doesn't make it count against my stats....damned if I would take a hit for some angry, self-entitled schmuck who can't follow the proper channels).

Bottom line is this: Throwing a hissy fit, giving ultimatums, and threatening to sue is NOT how you get what you want. The sooner you grow up and realize that, the happier you will be in general.

The forums aren't for personal vendettas.

This would've been appropriate in the vent thread in some form like, "bought $50 worth of pre-paid cards, but they don't work...and customer support hasn't gotten back to me. fml"
