Yes, because jwalks post on this nerd infested amv forum is going to cause riots and psycho babble and fuck EVERYTHING UP ALL KINDSA BAD...ohwait. Jwalk isn't the one causing your problems, stop projecting your fucking bullshit onto somebody else. He said his piece just like everyone else in the thread, get a fucking grip dude. He quite obviously expressed concern and compassion by saying he was to donate when/as he could, and as I know Jwalk to be a rather nice person, I'm sure he legit prayed for you and everybody else in the areas getting hit. If that's the attitude you're going to have toward somebody like that, get fagged and enjoy your 5am quake alarm, it's karma biting you in the dick.

Wow, how fucking naive are you?

Do you remember how many confusing, contradictory rumors flew around during 9/11, or was your head up your ass then as well? And that was before social networking!

I wake up and suddenly everyone who can tweet or post a Facebook status has a degree in nuclear physics, and yet half of them can't agree on whether the wind is blowing north or south. A few of my European friends are paying $1000s to change their flight plans and leave Japan a month earlier than scheduled because their families are freaking out, and any English-language news bounces around some sort of fucked up TEH INTERNETS echo chamber before emerging mutated and twisted beyond recognizable form. Whatever bizarre reality you choose to believe, the reality here is that the number of reliable news sources is already terrifyingly low before people like Jwalk start spouting off without thinking about what they're writing.

Or to quote Tommy Lee Jones, "A person is smart. People are dumb panicky animals and you know it."

Wow dude, wow. You're way fucking thicker than I had you pegged for. Rumors are going to fly around about any and every event that goes on in the world, jwalks entitled to post his thoughts just as much as anybody else on this forum. He's going off of the news he's gotten, just like everybody else who is going by the news we're receiving. Instead of being such a fucking gigantic prick, why not inform him of the reality in a way that doesn't involve cutting him down and being a jerk off as he's trying to be sympathetic to the plight of those in the way of danger. Your attitude is in serious need of some tuning, go fucking work on yourself.

I think speculating over information is useful within bounds. But you're right that there is a lot of really unnecessary panic. A good chunk of it is to blame on media sensationalism though - as a couple of rational commentators have said, the Western media has been very keen on making this a compelling story regardless of the cold hard truth, whatever that may actually be. On the reactor, that indeed blew up into a crazy amount of crap being flung around. Mix political agendas in, and things just get incredibly stupid.

However, speculating and getting informed by being a bit critical on your own, as well as reading up on the technical side of the reactor situation, isn't going to hurt anyone. But you have to keep your own "expertise" in check and realize that at the end of the day, you don't know jack and people more informed than you are on the task as we speak. With the plant situation, they certainly deserve support - and not raising panic and spreading hearsay is about the best you can do.

Otherwise, dokool, chill. I understand you're not in a nice place right now and this is more than just close to home for you. But don't snap at people - it's not doing anyone any good either, especially when they're expressing concern through being curious, since in a lot of cases that's all they can do where they are. This may be a serious tragedy, but like anything else in life, it's subject to discussion and speculation. People talking about it doesn't in any way diminish it.

Obviously you don't remember when I was active on the forums and adhered to the puppy-training method of dealing with newbs and retards: sharp whacks to the back of the head with a rolled-up newspaper until they learn.

See, I know you're an asshole, and everyone here knows I'm an asshole. The difference is that I don't care what everyone thinks, and it's irrelevant because on this issue I'm still right and you're assaulting my character instead of debating the point. Jwalk's post was 10% genuine prayer (if that) and 90% unnecessary panic, which has joined the rest of the internet's unnecessary panic to cause the equivalent of shouting "FIRE" in the cramped movie theater that is Japan. And that shit has no place, anywhere.

I watched CNN yesterday at the doctor's office. You'd think the nuclear reactors are going to BLOW UP AND RADIATE FALLOUT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE GALAXY.

So yeah, you can't blame people for the way they're reacting. The average american is ignorant that 90% of the stuff on the news is exaggerated bullshit. >_>'

I stopped watching the CNN coverage when they interviewed a guy that runs a power plant out in CA and pretty much ambushed him with information they had from other sources about how much of an earthquake this particular plant could withstand before breaking and the immediately start calling bullshit on air after he gives his assessment. How is this relevant at all?

An actual great thing the evening before on Piers Morgan's show - they set up this alarmist leading question around reasons for the number of mega disasters we've seen recently and they brought in a statistician, an astrophysicist, and a 3rd guy. Actual questions of patterns or bigger problems get asked - all 3 of them say "no link what so ever" and then there's empty air for a while. 2nd question on if the moon's somehow involved - answer from the space expert that points out every reason why an idea like that is stupid and wrong. more silence. It was so good.

Yup, the media sure loves a good story. When they don't get it but still want it, stupidity ensues.

Yes, because you seem to be a fantastic judge of character and just the person to decide whether jwalk was being genuine or not. You seem to think a little too highly of yourself. Get fagged, dude. You suck as a person.

Its funny how most of those facebook people actually have obviously no idea what they are talking about when they say japan never helped us. The rest of em talk of things like karma and god then have the nerve to wish harm and desctruction in the process, way to build up your own karma.

Here's proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... ne_Katrina
Many countries actually offer manpower and other kind of aid as well during times of crisis, but in most cases USofA rarely accepts it for whatever the reason. People just read/hear/listen to the media and never actually seek out sideline information then later assume that no one cared.

Half of them just probably did that to look cool. I actually feel ashamed to be in the same country as them but people like that will be everywhere anyway, what can you do.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson
