ditto, it's a huge tip to the scale. I'm actually surprised no one brings that up more often than Pearl Harbor... but then again, its the victors that write the history books

Well, these are the same people who think that WWI is when we fought Hitler and WWII is when we fought Japan ... Funny part is that I have met a person who thought that. Gotta love Americans!

I'm doing my best to follow what's going on ... I've met more than a dozen people from Japan and even had them stay with my family. I hope everyone is ok. Lets try to keep the trolling and arguing to a minimum guys.

Sounds like my hometown. Except you forgot about the time in 1812 when we fought the terrorists. |:>

Uhm. The Emeperor was not dethroned. He lost all of direct control, and became the "symbol and the spirit of the state." This leaves the door open for individuals to consider him divine if they so wish, but such a belief does not interfere with the functioning of the state.

That's section I, article 1, of the Japanese constitution.

So, to sum up, Japan has had the largest earthquake ever, a tsunami that killed thousands, hundreds of billions in damages and honest questions on if this will bankrupt the country, a nuclear reactor melt down, a couple more that might melt down, and now a volcano. All in 3 days. This has turned from "wow, what a tragedy" and into "wow, maybe there is a God, because he sure is going Old Testament on Japan's ass". The thing is, God usually didn't stop after just a few days. God isn't going to stop until it looks ground zero for Eva's second impact.

So to those who are in Japan I just want to say, get the fuck out. Godzilla is coming.

Quite frankly you have such little understanding of the situation on the ground that I don't think you could identify a reliable source if it shook your hand and cafe you a business card. You're not helping your case, here.

Quite frankly your attitude toward jwalk is fucking disgraceful, dokool. I thought you better than that. He has expressed nothing but concern on the issue and good wishes. I guess bad situations bring out peoples true colors though. Way to act like a decent human being, man. That really helps things.

The problem with our media coverage here in the US is they are all desperately waiting for a full on nuclear meltdown. They love devestation.

Here's a link to an article by Dr. Josef Oehmen, a research scientist at MIT:

"I have read a 3 page report on CNN where every single paragraph contained an error."

Japan was the first nation to offer us help after katrina and 9/11 as far as I know, it's too bad our nation scarcely accepts it but loves to give it. Anyway as far as I'm concerned japan and our country have had close relations for a while now, were basically neighbors and friends. Dwelling on the past events that our generation wasn't even around for is pretty dumb, I can't believe some people. Best I can do is donate which I plan to do on next paycheck.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

He expressed nothing but uninformed reactionary babble, and that's the last thing the situation needs especially in light of all the panic regarding the nuclear plants. When you have to deal with idiots causing food shortages and get woken up by quake alarms at 5am you can come talk to me about the proper attitude.

This is when I regret I don't rule the world. So many fewer people would be in it.
