Pwolf wrote:I saw you posted some stuff in IRC the other day. Looked like an interesting take on what i was doing with my pimpbot. I've barely touched the thing in 5 or 6 years though but at least it does what I originally wanted. Planned on adding a list of other features to it but never got around to coding them. Looking forward to seeing what the thing can do.
Ye wanted to polish off a few more things before making this post.

We've got a channel bot for renegade #amv. It's a couple days hack jobby, but it's got some nice functionality already. Looking for feature suggestions.

Currently implemented stuff (roughly ordered from standard to coolest):
  • Link grabbing for the following sites:
    • Youtube
    • AMV video pages
    • AMV forum posts
  • AMV quicksearch (returns the top 5 from all pages ranked by hits)
  • AMV download check (lists link types available, their file stats, and whether direct links are reachable)
  • Org <-> IRC user database to help keep track of who is who and avoid those oh so awkward moments
  • And a live AviSynth interpreter with uploading for script testing/syntax checking/just dicking around
Here's a shot of it in action: http://ompldr.org/vN2djbw
(It's less obnoxious-looking when it's not every other line)

So yeah come check it out.

how are you handling the Org <-> IRC user database? I wanted to do something similar but couldn't figure out a method that was reliable and accurate since people change their names all the time or use different irc names from their org name.

Well I don't think there's a reliable method for that... unless people don't change their nicks that much and try to keep them somehow alike (but I guess the last thing a scraper bot wants to do is to be checking congruencies between usernames :P)

The bot logs the userID I believe and serves the member page up as

<NME> !member
<a girl with pretty eyes> NME is NME, member since 7/13/01. 25 videos, overall rating 8.11/10. Forum posts: 1816. http://tinyurl.com/4tgjbmj

The problem is, though, when they change their nick in IRC :dino:

Yea, that is definitely a limitation of it atm.

We need more people in here to get all the bugs ironed out btw.

No there isn't any nick-tracking atm since there isn't really any good way to do that when you're not services. But I know of a few algorithms used in other bots that involve maintaining a list of aliases by watching when people change nick, join with the same user@host etc.
It's def on the todo list this stuff is still like 2 days young.

GOOD FUCKING GOD I would enjoy this community more if it weren't so obsessed with regulation.
