You can only do so much. Things happen, you get distracted, time goes by. It does suck when you're left out of the loop though. When my grandfather died, either I completely forgot about it or no one felt the need to inform me. Didn't find out until several weeks, if not a month, later. I kinda expected it though so I wasn't surprised much or angry that no one told me. Mostly just sad that I didn't get a chance to see him between my Dad's passing and when he passed away. Again though, only so much you can do. Considering he was 3000 miles away, it made it rather difficult.
The moral of the story: don't dwell on it too much, you're only human.
