The interview was today and it was some knife selling company, Cutco who are reaching out to teens who are looking for job experience...but its obviously comes down to a scam when they want you to test it out by selling to relatives and references.
I tore the interviewer apart. I called him out on the references thing and said its better selling to random people because even though its awkward, it is way better on the spot and related it to a theology project I had where I had to go out and interview people (on film) and ask them personal religious questions. Yes it was awkward but it was a great way of socializing with random people. And kept unfolding his little scam. (obviously selling knives if incredibly more difficult, I was just fucking with him.) Cause how many people are looking to buy knives any way? The dude was pretty pissed and tried to convince me but in the end it just comes down to them wanting to make a sale off needy teenagers. The annoying part is that the guy seemed to like me at first, and in a way resembled me ...I could tell he has dealt with anxiety problems in his life. In a way I did feel like he wanted to help others like himself but he still was trying to sell a load of bullshit.
Funniest part was when he claimed it will look good on your resume. Like what are you suppose to say? "I sold knives in the summer!"
A month after I graduated from high school in '05 Cutco called me up too and I had such high hopes for like 2 days because I thought I would finally get a job better than Chick-Fil-A which wuz where I wuz working at at the time and hated. I told everyone I would have another job by next week and them hopes stayed fresh until I went in for the interview with 70 other people my age, which I didn't expect, and found out it wuz a scam after the first 40 minutes. Early that morning I worked first shift at CFA at 5AM even though I abhor getting up early just so that I would have time to have my day open before and after the interview at 3PM, wasted $14 of gas money going to Cutco and I'll never forget how fuckin hot that summer day wuz. After I played a good game with my interviewer and put 2 whole sets of knives in my jeep I came back in and yelled "It's a scam!!" and around 16 others followed suit but your story's more interesting. I still use them knives today. That and some good friends I made who shared my interests are the only beneficial things I got outta that place. It's a crime how they're doing this to graduates trying to find a decent job just to make ends meet but Cutco doesn't even do that, and Cutco's not the only one scamming them. I ran into too many pyramid scheme people that year and the following year and they were all listed in the newspapers. Whoevers' paying for those ads needs to be ass-raped, stabbed, shot, and burned to death.
