Guess this means we don't need donations all that much, huh?

This forum is for members to discuss topics that do not relate to anime music videos.

Then why hasn't every soda/bubblegum buying user donated already? :uhoh:

Indeed. I mean, what better way to celebrate a 10-year anniversary than a massive and completely non-committal spamming spree?

Seriously, I hope this forum turns out to be a productive part of the forums and the intention behind opening the donator forum, rather than starting from scratch, is to have discussions already in place and the tone of the place established in order to encourage reasonably civil discussion. If there's a demand for it, it's not especially difficult to have a closed donator forum again, but I honestly don't think very many people would prefer it over an open one.

Honestly, the donators were barely using it anyways. Also, with how much spam that kept popping out elsewhere on the forums, we need this to be public. Also, just because one incentive for donators is gone, doesnt mean that other perks for donators wont be made in the future. I'm not saying that there should be a direct replacement for this, but knowing that the site is changing and expanding, it will happen eventually.

I think a public general forum like this will help build the community better and get people to stick around. It will help attract more users to be active on the forums and that will benefit the Org more than a donator's forum. So dont say "Guess this means we don't need donations all that much, huh?" See this as part of the reformulation that's going to make the Org better and get more people involved. If more people are involved, more people donate.

It is (or was) a perk either way. Granted it was a shitty one, but still. Unless things have changed, it was also the only perk above the $1 level that would get you every other donator perk. If we're not going to do raffles or something along those lines for drives, doing a public radio / public TV style tiered perk system might be a good idea. We can source reasonable numbers of logo'd merchandise for a hell of a lot less than the zazzle store charges as well - that's cheap and can be used in such an endeavor. Again... if there is a need. Actions speak louder than words in that case.

HERPDERP I WANT SPECIAL TREATMENT THIS IS WHY I DONATE HERPDERP

You know, I seriously question the morals you were instilled with as a child.

There should only be one reason to donate, and that is to support the org. I'm sure it costs an arm and a leg to host all these videos, and then some with streaming + downloading bandwidth. That's your reason to donate, if you need any more you're nothing but a selfish prick as far as I'm concerned. People with your mindset are the problem here, Bashar. I mean that sincerely. If you've got ideas for the site, be it raffles or whatever, then bring them up in a way that doesn't make you look like the fucking Grinch weaseling his ass up a chimney with the family Christmas tree. Come join all the whos down in whoville and eat some roast beast Bashar, it'll be k, I square.

The donation system, donator priviliges, and other goodies are in the process of getting overhauled in the foreseeable future, and the opening of this particular forum is in some sense premature - but you can rest assured that once other changes come into play, plenty of donator perks and privileges will be around. This is just one small aspect of the site intended to reach out to the broader-than-just-donator community. This is neither a sign that we don't need donations, nor a sign of a turn towards communism. In the short term it will be followed by a proper donation drive with incentives, and in the long term by more substantial site changes and new features for donators to have.

Thank you Oto - you have provided the information I was looking for from the mod community and proved to be far more mature than those who I can only speculate would also vilify the millions of people that donate to institutions like public radio and appreciate the benefits for doing so.

Nobody is saying that you can't appreciate benefits should they arise, it's about not EXPECTING them and donating to support whatever cause you feel compelled to help out. I enjoy the perks we as donors get (Which is already quite a bit more than the non donors), but I honestly wouldn't care if I got them or not.
