Guess this means we don't need donations all that much, huh?

I will keep this in mind when it's time to donate again.

I must admit I was thinking something similar...

I highly doubt that the decision to open this forum to non-donators means that the org is not in need of donations.
Honestly, I don't see the donators forum as being a big perk to donating anyways, because there was never much of any discussion there.

In the 'org redesign' section, I was told most of the donators who were posting down here were also chatting in the chatroom. This place was an additional place to chat about off-topic things, but not something they *had* to donate for since they were already using the free chatrooms. They weren't donating just to use this section, so why would anyone else?

I think people who've been here a few years should have better reasons to donate than to gain access to a mildly-active subsection of the forum. But if having to share this forum is reason enough to stop donating, then stop. Tell me how much the org will be losing once you stop and I'll cover it the next time I donate. Problem solved, right? :?

I was actually looking at it from the POV of a non-donator -- this forum was one of the biggest incentives left for me to start donating. I haven't had access to this board for years, so I wasn't aware the activity level had dropped off.

I have donated twice now, and I didn't do it for the forum. I plan to donate again when I have the cash for it.

It's a perk thing. You don't take away perks if you need more money, you add them. This seems a signal of not needing the money to me is all.

I don't actually think I donate as much as I should and was thinking of doing more than the $50/year I do now. I'm getting the message that they don't need it. I'd be nice to have a replacement perk if they do need more though. Something more useful than a forum maybe?

EDIT - If we do still have a need, maybe we use this resource, maybe add the other logos in, and do some 10th anniversary promoting. Perhaps even a raffle for some of those things or something?

Oh. Sorry. ^^; In this thread, I got this:
Nya-chan Production wrote:Fun fact: Most of the active people in the IRC chat have access to donator's forums ;x

And then there was more talk about how the OTness of this donator-only section was not an incentive to anyone and was in fact just an extra thing that donators in the chatroom rarely bothered to use. Opening it up lets new people use it and new people who use something here are more likely to stay here, giving them a reason to donate.

I think most of the current donators have been here a long time, and they're just donating to keep the org around because it's home to them. Personally, I donate for the added search functions. When I lose those, I realize my donator status needs to be renewed. But if those were free I'd continue to donate just to keep the org around. It's the org. What would the net be without the org? :|

Get over it and move on. This is a supremely silly topic to make a thread about.

It's not like you would have spent that 12 bucks on anything but soda and bubblegum anyway.

Then why hasn't every soda/bubblegum buying user donated already? :uhoh:

I don't think this forum was ever particularly an incentive so much as a courtesy - I'd really be surprised if this was the reason people were donating. The 10th anniversary thing is, likewise, just that - a courtesy to the membership. Hopefully at some point it will also be followed by a donation drive - I honestly don't think keeping a locked-up forum was the best fundraising strategy, and this is part of revising it in the long run.
