Myth or factual story, the persona was based on a real person who did live a real human life, complete with siblings and offspring and an untimely death. There's been speculation of his ancestors living in Japan according to FATE magazine. Seems he really got around during those "missing years".

But it depends on the religion. Some like to look at the historical person as proof that he existed, so they accept that he lived a human life (meaning children and parents who had sex with each other).

Other christian religions, like the Jehova's Witnesses, believe Jesus was an archangel just pretending to be human, in which case he never had sex. I think he was Michael according to them, just with a temporary human body so he could live as a man and make the sacrifice before going back to heaven.

Yea, I'm personally pretty much convinced that there was a historical Jesus, and I think it's a shame we know relatively little of the historical Jesus in his own words. There are places in the New Testament where a uniquely 'his' philosophy sort of shines through, mixed with a good dose of classical Greek philosophy (no doubt because of the education of those who wrote the gospels); that part struck me as pretty incompatible with the otherwise Hebrew-oriented nature of the Bible.

Personally I would have a far different attitude towards [religious] Christianity if it was separated from its Hebrew roots. The vast majority of contradictions and problems with Christianity stem from the fact that its original writers wanted to convert Jews to it; as a result, it became a mix of two totally incompatible components (a Greek-influenced original Christian philosophy, and ancient Hebrew scripture). As I said before, I pretty much consider myself a 'Christian' in spirit - but only on my own perception of 'Christian philosophy' and the rejection of 90-something% of biblical scripture as having any value.

Hm ...if he did visit Asia, they had really good healing techniques back then, that could explain some of his 'miracles'
meaning children and parents who had sex with each other
... the children had sex with the parents? :o lol
But it's near impossible to get pregnant without having sex, and it would be even harder to give BIRTH a virgin. So i'm pretty sure that rules out that theory. Though the fact jesus DOES appear in various official documents back then does seem to mean he was alive and real. Maybe he was even convinced that he WAS the son of god. But as far as i'm concerned, he was just a normal person with some good skillz.

Has anyone herd about the argument that St. John the Baptist was the real messiah? I heard some stuff on that and it turns out he even had his own church, before the Christians killed everybody in it : /

I had once heard the theory that Mary was impregnated by a drunken Roman soldier who told her he was an angel and that God said that she would bear his child. Of course then again, back then, sex before marriage was a huge no-no. So even without the Roman soldier theory, do you really think she would go around telling people that her and Joseph got down before marriage, or would she try and find some way to deny it? "Oh no. Of course I didn't have sex with him before we were married. I really have no clue how I ended up pregnant. Must be a miracle from God!"

And the Asia thing really does make a lot of sense.
