Hah! Bullcrap! I voted for that! So obviously I must have hated it! In fact where da hell is it, it was the first one I searched for and nowhere to be found on the org. Or am I not looking carefully enough?

Anyway, you had some beautiful cutting. I plan to study your vid to get some ideas for mine, if that makes you feel any better. I've only done fanparody stuff for AMVS3 and AMVS4, so this year I've got a lot of studying to do one non-comedic timing cuts to see if I can make my first ever AMV memorable, and yours is up on the list, that's for sure.

If I had to choose one part that may have harmed you, early on, you did a repeating rapid-succession cut of some sort that I don't remember, but I remember it was just a few cuts too many and it made me remember I was watching a music video. After that I remember it being pretty solid, but those moments caused my mind to kind of snap out of it because it was too hard to follow for just a split second. If you want specifics when your vid is available, I'll be happy to mention them if you're interested. Other than that I finished Soul Eater relatively recently on Hulu, and I was very happy to see it represented sooo well. It's pretty consistently understood that this is probably one of the best AMV years Otakon has ever seen, hands down. The fact that you were a finalist this year is an instantaneous "This is awesome" for you. But if you're the type who needs to hear it, then IT WAS EXCELLENT!

Agreed -- can we finally say now that the even-years curse is over?

Why would you think that everyone hated it? I already told you this on youtube, but your video was really, really good. Some of your transitions and cuts were just awe-inspiring. You definitely put a lot of effort into your video, and you won best in action for a reason. Because of your video, I finally have decided to start using After Effects. So basically, Fallen Souls was awesome. Great job.

Huh, wow, you're right... the even years really were the lower points weren't they...? Wow, that makes Otakon this year an even more mystical experience somehow ^^ And don't think that your vids will escape my need for studying, Scintilla :D

Now that I think about it, in the last 8 years, for me a moment that really got me was when Ready, Steady, Git-R-Done didn't make comedy finals. I friggan lost it in Overflow, and then the comedy finals were relatively lackluster in reaction by comparison. That's the one major reason I hopped in on the Overflow disappearance discussion, because it always stuck with me that there was a diamond in the rough I never would have seen had it not been for Overflow.

I'm probably gonna be hittin' some of you up for critiques down the line if I ever get the chance to do what I want to. Sadly, my biggest drawback right now is the one video idea that perpetually inspires me is a One Piece vid, and the editing will probably be the easy part, because finding raws of that and/or buying that many DVDs is daunting (and they're only up to Skypea). Least some of the subbers are finally doing mkvs, but the DVDs aren't even released from mid-skypea on, dammit.

The main reason I dont think Nara got the win was because most people didnt even realize how much editing was done it. It was done so well that it looked like one single anime.

I'm still sad that Oroshi didn't win last year... I still listen to Hello World all the time. I found myself during Nara desperately trying to understand the source material so I could tell exactly what he was doing. Then I realized "what am I doing... shut up mind... he's setting up an atmosphere..." Now I want to know what he did, because I couldn't quite follow it all since I was in the back, and people wouldn't stay silent for it around me.

My video is competing in other contests, including a certain one in a state in the Southeast two weeks after the largest Sci-Fi con in the country, and that contest is supposed to be blind judging, so I'm not releasing the video until at least mid- to late September. I *am* surprised at the number of people that really did like my video, though. Sometimes you don't realize how good a video really is until lots of other people tell you so. :)

I don't know how everybody could have hated your video considering that it won by a landslide. Although at times the video reminded me too much of "Naruto's Technique Beat" (*ugh*), it was very skillfully edited, it had a good song already made familiar to anime fans thru Eden of the East, and it uses a hot anime title. The win was well-deserved. Congratulations.

Shucks, thanks.

When I watched the Dramatic/Serious finalists, I was looking for emotional pull. I give all kinds of kudos to Mike and Meri, knowing they deserve the win after so many near-misses over the years at Otakon, but I just didn't feel any emotional investment in their AMV. It's a fun crossover video with a catchy song. But I want to have my heartstrings tugged. Both the Macross Frontier videos had that emotional pull, but "Coming Home" did it to me moreso. I'm sorry that it didn't place in the Top 2, but it's a fine video.

Otakon had full showings on Friday and Saturday, and yet there are some who are upset that there wasn't a Sunday showing too? You guys are spoiled rotten.

x2 That's exactly what I said when I read some of the post on Otakon's board.

 It's not spoiling, it's the fact that the event has THAT big of a turnout, and Otakon has accomodated it in the past. There was someone that said the contest was the highlight of the convention, but that they couldn't get into it the past few years, and that's a problem. And to my knowledge, it's not "us guys" as creators, it's the contest attendees. Or, would-be attendees, if they could get in.

Face it, it's a huge event that had three showings in the past, and it was cut down by 33% (not to mention being moved around for Saturday). That's significant. It used to be something that was available all three days, like the Dealer's Room - if I'd counted on the Dealer's Room being open Sunday and found out it wasn't, I'd be pissed too. Especially since the registration rate has gotten higher. It's not fair to pay more and then have things taken away from you - that's the kind of thing that affects attendance.

I dunno, 2007 started the "odd years suck" and 2009 was even worse.

sorry i didnt mean 'everyone' and i apologize for the contradiction. What i meant was alot would feel the overuse of soul eater as a source of anime when i could of been slightly more original and creative with my editing. Anyways all entries were amazing and yours in particular for the action category Brakus. Really well done!!! :P
