I know it does not sound fair or desirable to strip out, say the overflow at Otakon, but if it is not there and the fans complain on a larger scale, that tends to get the attention of the higher up instead of just a few dozen people... If you don't believe me, just try that with Cosplay and see how much of a downpour of complained and upset people you'll get who get all vocal about it. They tend to be a lot more organized when it comes to that…

We all need to bring vuvuzela's and troll with them outside the original amv room. Even though they are banned. Anyone to do so is hardcore

If even one person does something stupid in response to this, ~I~ will hand them their ass :3 Be civil people.

Also, the tech issues that may or may not be a problem in Main Events, is prevelant at ANY con. VERY few take the steps to prevent it, sometimes they're not even allowed to. The "issue" has been a huge problem at Otakon in the past, and I finally invested enough to fix it for good in 2009. Working "with" logistics tends to become working "against" logistics. It was difficult enough getting the correct setup in 1 room, much less 2. My main TECHNICAL issue with moving content to main events, is that I have no access to the room before the AMV Contest. In Video 1, I show up Thursday, and work WITH the AV guys to make sure the projector is set up right. Once the projector is in the air, things become a lot harder to change, and believe me, they do need changes. Why we couldn't stay in Video 1 and swap slots with whatever's playing in Video 1 at that time, is the big question that I can't get an answer to.

As for the loss of space, I know Otakon has less rooms on the schedule as were in the original plan. What we lost those rooms to, I don't know. Could be private events, could be financial reasons, could be closed due to flooding (no lie, we lost the green room in 2008 for that reason!). I know we lost 1 video room that was kids' programming, though none of that content was moved into other rooms AFAIK...

Looks like the schedule was posted. I think I got everything relevant. There actually is one overflow block, from what I saw.

Friday...

* AMV Overflow - 12:00PM - 2:00PM, Video1.
* AMV Contest - 5:00PM - 7:30 PM, Video1.
* Friday Night Fan Parodies - 10:00PM - 1:00AM, Video4.

Saturday...

* AMV Contest - 3:30PM - 6:00PM, Main Events.
* Iron Editor - 8:30PM-11:30 PM, Panel2.
* Saturday Night Fan Parodies - 10:00PM - 1:00AM, Video5.

Sunday...

nothing pertinent.

EDIT: here's Saturday's description of the AMV contest...

Come watch a two and a half hour showcase of top-notch Anime with commentary from the editors Music Videos from around the world as their creators compete in this year’s AMV Contest. Help us determine the winners by voting for your favorite AMVs. Ballots will be provided. Cast your vote in the ballot box at the Info Desk. Results will be announced at the con.

What does that mean?

Looks like it's just some text mixed in from the description to Iron Editor.

It's great to see that they placed overflow in the schedule! Unless I'm missing something and they just kept it in written form for some reason...

Also, I'm confused by Saturday's description, since Friday's doesn't have that add-in. Anyone know why it's different?

I think that the description from Iron Editor got garbled in there with the Saturday AMV Contest description. If you look in the desc. for Iron Editor, it has that "with commentary from the editors" line.

All righty, first off, thank god. Fanparodies are where they belong apparently! And we seem to have some overflow!

Second, BLAST! Iron Editor is on top of the AMVS4 premiere... oh well. Whatever has occurred has lead to some concessions it seems. Wish those lined up so that I could see both, but sadly, I guess not. I'll catch the first half at least.

It's completely shocking they put it back on the schedule but I am happy none-the-less.

In regards to which videos will be played...I wonder how it's going to be handled this year in comparison to last. Since all the AMVs were eventually shown in 2009, we had the option to go up and request for ours to be played earlier. I have no clue how they are going to fit a hundred some AMVs at about 3 to 4 minutes each (maybe more) in a 2 hour time slot. And would it be completely fair to everyone to have a first come first serve basis?

I guess we'll all know soon enough. I'm still super excited for this development though :D

Well, the easiest answer to having 100+ videos in overflow and only 2 hours to show it is to cull the list in stages. If you don't already, make anything that you have as a disqualification (watermarks, subtitles, etc.) apply to overflow as well and then assess how much you have left. Apply your rule on long videos, then again see how much you have to deal with. I suppose if you have all the prescreener vote totals the next X videos could just make it in too...

If there is some master playlist that takes things like disqualifications and scores into consideration, I'd like to suggest that the old request system still be put into practice like any other overflow in the past few years in order to give those who attend the con the chance to see their video on the screen. If that is at all possible of course.

Just my two pennies. :bzz2:

Saturday...

* AMV Contest - 3:30PM - 6:00PM, Main Events.
* Iron Editor - 8:30PM-11:30 PM, Panel2.

You know...wishful thinking here, but there may be just enough time to count ballots from this viewing block to actually announce at Iron Editor...maybe...

Granted, though, a lot of people mull over their decisions and in the past there was a ballot box placed at the info table. Having a decision deadline within two hours after the Saturday showing seems a bit off for me...

Also, the 11:30PM end time for IE...seems a bit, erm, late...I wonder...

Okay, time to put my speculator's hat away and get to worrying about work stuff now...
