I really shouldn't support any "bashing" of any sort, but I rofl'd hard. Fukken saved.

Ironic, but that pic just reminded me that this year, Otakon's official theme is in fact "music".

Woot! 2 years in a row :awesome: Does this mean I'm last in the tentative play order? Congrats to everyone else too, I look forward to a good competition this year, even if some of the showings won't be 'optimally prime'...

Well, it's not like the Otakon administration pays attention to these forums
Might be a good thing if they did, though, just to see what kind of "amateurs" they're undercutting here :uhoh:

Could the theme be any broader?

Hence why running a tape is probably the best bet. ANY VCR will play a tape unless it's broken. DVD-Rs are notorious for breaking up on con equipment. But, you won't get the live audio level adjusting, proper video levels, or equalized audio that the server offers.

How about encoding an MPEG-2 or HuffYUV or Lagarith master on a laptop with USB ports and wifi disabled through BIOS, and a password protected BIOS, then rigging up a standard analog output (component/composite/s-video) to it? You can still perform basic color correction for each room on the fly in most video card drivers, and since the output will only go through one scaler it won't be out of sync as much. Also, if it is out of sync, you can manually compensate if you're playing the audio through the ffdshow audio decoder.

And, if you want extra dramatics, you can handcuff the laptop to a trusted aide! Or maybe handcuff it inside a briefcase, and you'd have to have two keys to open it, and then once it's opened you have to swipe ID cards and enter codes to unlock the laptop. Just like the nuclear launch briefcase!

No, far more ironic, because they're the ones messing with the A"Music"V's ...

Well I lucked out. turns out Ashyukun is handling our connection in Main Events. In true Otakorp fashion, and proving that it's who you know and not what you can do, it looks like the technical issues in main events will be minimized to some degree. I've been promised additional manpower to count ballots, so we might be able to knock out the awards in the latter half of IE. Fan parodies is building their own server to be used in the Hilton. The only remaining suck is no chance for overflow.

Congrats, peeps! Still gonna be a surprise for me to see who did what for most of those in there. Here's hoping Otakrap can somehow salvage this. AMV related events are the only thing they provide me with that's of interest these days. Start neglecting that and the hundreds of dollars and vacation time I spend going to this seem much less worth it.

*EDIT* That's good that they'll try to work out a few things, but no overflow is still a pretty big drag.

I dunno who Ashyukun is, but if you say he's good, then I guess that's pretty reasonable... even though they are renigging on the published rules about non-finalists being given an overflow screening.
I guess I'll just be spending more time honing my photography skills this year!

My thoughts exactly.

They can just call them AVs now.

Maybe that means Audio/Visual here, but we're at a Japanese animation convention; we have to go with the Japanese definition, and you know what that means :ying:
