If you can't get in contact with the creator (which often happens with older videos or videos by people who haven't been around in years), I don't think anyone will mind.
...............really? I hope that you meant to say that its a unspoken rule to ask to show someone's AMV
in a panel. I'm the assistant director for Momocon's amv department, and we show over 30 hours of AMVs during the convention every single year. We even have the AMV rooms running overnight. And estimating that we show about 15 AMVs per hour, we would have to get permission for over 450 AMVs every year. That's just not possible. If its just to show the 5 or 10 AMVs that are shown during a hour long panel, then yes, I guess that it would definitely be common courtesy to at least make a serious attempt to track down the owner and get permission.
Oh and coincidentally,
Momocon is also held on a college campus

(Georgia Tech to be specific) And its currently the largest free convention in North America.
On another note, I actually plan to spend the holidays (Christmas and New Years) in East Orange and Newark New Jersey. But I don't think that I'll be able to extend my visit to the 16th though.

Its too bad that this con wasn't around when I actually lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Making the trip from Atlanta is really expensive.
