The AUSA Thread (rules n' stuff)

Postby VicBond007 » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:22 am

AUSA rules are up and available here:
http://www.animeusa.org/AUSAAMVRules2009-2.html

Questions and concerns go in this thread. Don't take it to PMs unless your question is personal.

We're trying something new with the time limit this year. We're doing away with the maximum time limit, but still keeping the 30 second rule. Senator DeMoss made a pretty compelling argument for long-ass videos, so I'm testing the new rule out with AUSA. If things go alright then I will use it for Otakon 2010 as well.

Everything else is pretty much the same as last year.

I successfully submitted my form. I wonder when I'll get the FTP login info.

Hm I seem to always have this problem with Otakon and AUSA ftp servers. My ftp client can't seem to connect. During Otakon, it managed to connect at last minute, but I'm not sure if it's going to again for AUSA.

I can't login to the FTP server. Something's wrong with my info. I keep getting a message:

"Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Resolving address of ftp.animeusa.homeip.net
Status: Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NONAME - Neither nodename nor servname provided, or not known"."

Please please please please do not forgo the time limit at Otakon. Please. I'd die. Contests are already long enough and there is no reason that they need to be made longer. (IMO anyway)

Oh and probably should enter this...

The ftp server is animeusa.homeip.net just like the e-mail says.
NOT ftp.animeusa.homeip.net

I mean the time limit for individual entries, not the length of the whole contest. We'll still be cutting it down to 2 hours. Trying to see if the audience will prefer to sit through one long, good video, as oppose to 2 or 3 worse videos.

Yes, but with very few exceptions, most the AMVs I've seen would have been better at 3 minutes than they were at 5.

I've seen a few longer AMVs that were really good. But only a few.

That said, you're the one who has to look at all the entries so, you know...

The minimum length of each entry is 30 seconds. There is no maximum length. Please hover your mouse pointer over this ? mark for more details!

Wow...guess this is my lucky day. I did make a long-ass video this year (I promise it won't be a habit)...and I really liked editing it/the final result so it's nice to at least have an opportunity like this.

Your conditions sound fair enough. I'll give it a shot. :)
