Sounds good to me. Where would I go to know their reputation? Keep in mind I did hear about the contests I enter on our "Contest calendar" or a post on forums.
You can find this out by:
- Checking through this forum. The ones with "established reputations" will be the ones with responsive coordinators and very good responses from editors.
- Checking the websites and forums of the convention you wish to place a video into. Don't look at just AMVs, either; check out some of the other programming information and browse the forums to get a feel for the convention's reputation.
Even if a convention gets positive indicators, you should make sure to do the work on your end all the time. If you don't see anything about your video (or any videos) after the convention is over, e-mail the contest coordinator. If the coordinator doesn't answer back after 2-3 days and there is still no activity, see if there is a department head for music videos (or for the video rooms) and e-mail them. If that still doesn't get any responses, e-mail the convention's operations manager. By that point, you should get some sort of response. You do have to keep at them, for it is their job to make sure that you are satisfied as a contestant so you'll pass on the word. Don't jump the gun, but don't sit back and wait if it's taking days to find out anything.
