A-KON 20 VSE: Deadline - May 3; Entry extension (UPDATE)

Postby rubyeye » Sun Mar 01, 2009 4:03 pm

Notice: Hi guys. Like it happens each year, we're working hard to get all of the last minute submissions checked in and everyone's questions answered between working our full time jobs and keeping the wives happy. We're going to be leaving FTP open for a few more days to let those of you who have had issues with FTP congestion get you're videos uploaded. Likewise, we should have all of the video statuses updated by Monday, May 11th. If we have issues with any of the submissions, we'll be sure to reach out to you individuals. As always thanks for the support. -Elge

************

Submission Deadline is only a week away - May 3.

The Submission Form for each video you plan to enter needs to be filled out by May 3. This is the cut off date so we know just how many videos to expect for the contests.

However, we are extending the entry time for getting us your video until May 10. That means you have an extra week to actually upload or snail mail your video to us.

************
:nono: Given everyone's reactions to the idea of awarding $ prizes, I've spoken to the Staff and we are abandoning that idea! Prizes will still be Free Swag, Trophies and Gift Certificates, perhaps something else as well. I really appreciate everyone's reaction so please re-consider remaining/entering in the contest. This is why I relay announcements to the community, to get these kind of feedback.

If you have any other ideas for prizes, besides trophies and certificates, please share them with us! We can certainly use the input.
************

Also, for those who are interested: The presentation format for this year's events will be different than before. So get those videos in, you've still got time.

A-KON 20 is here folks. Two decades of the longest running anime convention in N. America and we’re back to do it again .... A-KON 2009 Video Events .... now open for submissions!

We’re still using the old homepage, until the new layout is complete, but everything is operational and we are ready for your video entries - all information is updated and correct and the FTP server is working.

Note: New Mailing Address if you are submitting your videos on DVD

Submission deadline: Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Hosted events: Fans' Exhibition, Experts' Exhibition, Fanworks Exhibition, The "H" Exhibition

Categories: Action/Horror, Comedy/Fun, Drama/Romance

NEW Category: Multi-Editor Projects (M.E.P)

That’s right, we are now going to accept Multi-Editor Projects for the Fans/Experts Exhibitions.

1. One video entry per group/project, submission done by one individual in the group, such as the project coordinator. You’ll be able to enter the names of the other editors upon submission.

2. Try to limit the time for these videos to within the range of the recommended video length for each contest, we won’t disqualify you for going a couple minutes over.

In addition, we’re going to change the presentation format to try and keep things interesting, plus there might be a few other surprises. It is A-Kon’s 20th anniversary after all. I’ll try to address any questions anyone has for this year’s contests and keep you up-to-date as things progress.

Wow man its been a while, are you gonna come to akon this time as well. Havent seen you since the last Ushicon, we should have some sweets at the hotel, maybe you and some of the other guys could stop by and we could get a Poker game started.

Anyway we will be there, and with videos this year. :P Just keep that deadline nice and far out so we have plenty of time to work.

I'm curious if I could submit AMV Salad 2 (premiered at Otakon '08 during parodies). Is there a time limit (because this thing is just over 18 minutes long, as well as being kind of PG-13)? I'm not so interested in competition as having it exhibited...

We don't have a "showcase only" screening anymore, so you'll have to enter the Fan/Expert's Exhibition. Also, 18 min. is quite long for a single video. For time limit, we'd like you to try to keep them within the range of the Recommended Submission Length for each contest. If you could cut that in half, then I don't see a problem with you entering this video. If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can.

Having never been to Akon, maybe you can answer this for me... Is the Fan's exhibition perceived any differently than the overflow screenings at any other con that has them (i.e. only sparely attended, usually only by the people that are in it and their friends) or are they actually received like a second contest by the attendees?

The Fans' Exhibition and Experts' Exhibition are really one and the same AMV Contest, just broken into two different events: The Fans' contest are for new and amateur editors, while the Experts' are for more skilled editors with more experience and/or have won a few contests.

Attendence levels for both events have consistantly been high, nearly to room capacity for the Fans' Exhibition and (almost always) overflowing or standing-room only for the Experts' Exhibition. Needless to say, we always draw a large crowd.
