Pre-interest gauge? wtf?
I've been thinking lately about the next IC tournament and since it was on my mind I felt like making a thread about it.
If you're new to the site or are simply unfamiliar with this contest, check out
these threads.
I will say right now, the very earliest the next tournament will start would be some time in 2009 (So far I've run this tournament every 2 years, and since the last one at least started in 2007 [granted it was October 2007... but whatever!]. So my question is, do I run it at the beginning of the year or near the end? This is something that should be considered because the beginning of the year is oftentimes looked at as "con season editing" since many of the larger contests deadlines begin in April/May, so many people like to take the first few months of the year to really buckle down and work on their videos, and don't want to be distracted by other projects. However, due to the nature of this tournament, you'd really only be taking roughly a day out of your editing schedule every 2-3 weeks. But even still, it's something to consider.
So what do you think? Bite the bullet and start it up in January? Or wait until con season is totally over and do it post-AWA like the last couple times?
Also, what do you guys think of a 96 person 3-tier tournament, with the finals being a 3-way match?
You can also use this as a platform to offer suggestions/changes if you felt certain things were done poorly. I'm totally open to suggestions. One thing that I'd love help with is ideas for how to keep the tournament interesting for those not actually involved in it. If you go back and look at the threads, the rules/join thread, and the round one and two threads are HUGE, but then it gradually throttles back as fewer and fewer people are paying attention. What do you think could be done to keep up interest?
EDIT: Since I know it'll likely come up, I think I'm going to FINALLY release the compilations of the IC3 videos as a way to drive promotion for the new tournament. So be on the look out for those.
