Postby Seijin_Dinger » Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:38 am

I am still hammering out a few details regarding the FTP so that will be up and running soon

The contest page can be found here

>>Update<<
AMV Contest Location Change wrote:Currently I have had a flood of contacts from various people asking about the move from Main Events Stage to the AMV Theater. Most are wondering if this will hurt the contest.

Please note that as I am currently n the middle of some of the hardest work on the contest, I cannot respond to each and every email, IM, etc, but I wish to say that this will not hinder the contest at all. Some things will be different, one of which will being able to afford more scrutiny over the audio playback of the contest which in turn will provide a better quality contest in the long run, as well as opening the Contest showing to a wider range of people who otherwise would not be able to attend a singular Friday night showing.

Also please understand that with the nature of the AMV Contest it was the logical choice to move because it is the most dynamic and easily adaptable event we have, allowing it to conform to whichever room we chose to run it in.

So please don't continue to focus on the negative aspects of the move as that will not help the situation, and understand that the contest has been through worse times than this and has survived, this is just going to be a new challenge that will need to be adapted to and overcame.

all I ask is that if you do choose to respond, please be polite and respectful. People are more open to discussing how to better accomidate events when people arent using open attacks.

Sakura-Con is pleased to announce that the AMV Contest will be held Friday April 10 between the hours of 1 and 3 in the afternoon. We are also offering a second showing for Saturday evening tentatively scheduled for between 7 and 9 in the evening. If you wish to attend the Friday showing, I would suggest Pre-Registering and showing up on site as early as possible.

For the Saturday Showing video voting will be open.

You can pre-register for the con here

gotta question...
Format:
Acceptable Digital Media Formats:
AVI: HuffYUV, Uncompressed, AVI DV, MPEG-4 (DivX/Xvid)
MPEG: MPEG-2, MPEG-1.
Audio: a sample rate of no lower than 44,100 Hz (44.1 kHz) Dual Channel, Stereo

Unacceptable Formats (Disqualification)
Windows Media Video: WMV
Real Media: RM, RAM, RA, etc
Authored DVD: (When you make it play as a video DVD in a DVD Player. You are still able to submit the files as a Data DVD)

it says MPEG-4 is acceptable, but there's no mention of H.264. is this an acceptable format?

Well, it isn't on the AVI list, and you really shouldn't be putting H.264 in the AVI container anyway.

You will appreciate the fact that that the MPEG-4 format (.MP4 files) is not listed as being acceptable, just MPEG-4 ASP codecs in AVI files.

If I get something new finished in time I'll go ahead and enter. Haven't been in the contest since 05 so I suppose it's about time I send in a video again :P

I'll be entering again this year.

I have some really cool ideas so if I get them done in time I should make a nice showing.

Hope to see everyone again.
This is how I see things:
A bad AMV makes it look easy
A good AMV makes it look fun
A great AMV makes it look hard
However, the best AMVs make it look impossible
