Yeah, I dicussed about the showing while Masquerade judging was going on, I may talk to them about reviving it next year. There was just too much to do this year to get everything taken care of.

As for the guest losses, out of all the cancellations, only one of them was supposed to be a judge, the other GoH we have are still doing it, and I talked with Guest relations and we're working on getting a replacement,

Yeah, music acts seems to be the no. 1 priority for Acen this year. For example, ADV's panels (which are usually the most popular out of the industry one for fans to attend) are usually on a Saturday afternoon. This year, it's set at 8pm Friday directly aainst The Pillows concert. I counted the number of concerts at this show and it's like.... um ok, when did the con become American Bandstand?

But I'm digressing. AMVs seem to be getting more of the shaft this year from a programming POV. Sounds like you have to deal with even more political B.S. than usual, Julius. I feel for ya man. :(

There really isn't any political stuff going on, I never had to deal with that, this year the problem was trying ot get the amv computer built, imaged and working before the con, and last week was when that finally got completed (talk about cutting it close!) I didn't have to beg or fight for anything, all that happened was acen needed main programming and they took it. Stuff like that happens all the time in cons, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little upset that we lost main programming, but at the same time I can see why they took it.

WHOOPS! Wait a minute, we can't do a 6pm showing, because that's when Random Destination Studios is doing thier panel. I was looking at an older copy of the schedule when I said 6pm. We're going to bump it an hour up, so the added showing will start at 7pm NOT 6pm on friday.

Oh and someone asked why the awards ceremony was 4 hours earlier, its not I think we reserved like an hour or so. the reason it shows 4 hours is because we SHOULD have videos being played in the amv room at the same time and being the lazy person I am just gave it one color code for both things.

Umm, I'm really confused now... Me and Knives talked to Lynn earlier this week and said that we couldn't do the RDS panel at 6pm on friday, so she said that we were moved to 4pm on friday instead... °_°

Okay I checked it with Lynn, apparently I was struck with amnesia and totally forgot about that change that we discussed, yeah things are starting to wear me down.

Finals, Acen, Work and my parents filing for bankruptcy has my head spinning. Sorry, bout all of this. and for the record. Yes your Panel is at 4pm friday

The contest re-showing will still start at 7pm, we'll use the extra hour to give the equipment a break from useange and time for all of us to run and get some food.

well, 4pm would work alot better for everyone in RDS. If you can please move us to that time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You mean 'Japanese Bandstand', right? :P

I wouldn't guess that any of this was an intentional slight or particularly political- just a result of the priorities of the con management being well apart from what both we seem to think they should be and what many other conventions have. Honestly I can't say this surprises me when the Convention Chairman is a (founding) member of one of the musical groups performing- it's no more of a surprise than the fact that AMVs get a decent amount of attention at Vlad's cons. What remains to be seen is whether or not the congoers agree with with their choices in the direction of the con. Though not a scientific sample by a long shot, I know I've seen more people griping in various places about the overabundance of musical guests than I've seen jumping up and down about them. I can't imagine that the ADV people are jumping for joy at having their panel up against the main concert of the convention, either- so it could stand the chance of causing friction with both the fans and the companies.

I realize we only lost one of the planned GoH's for the AMV IE... unfortunately, the one lost was the last one I would have wanted to lose. :(

Yeah it hurts, I always have fun with monica there. She'll be missed this year, but she should be back next year :D

At the same time, I think the contest will probably be better than an AMV block and perhaps folks who don't get into the show will go.

But yeah, do your best to get Main Events next year. I'll be frank in that I think Anime Hell is not as popular as the AMV contest and we *should* get that slot at night like nearly every other con. I certainly understand the bands things since ACen seems to be getting more and more bands (to the chagrin of some of us).

Anyway, thanks for the explanation!

Somehow i doubt the 1500+ people watching Anime Hell friday night would agree ^_^. Arguably, at it's peak, there were more people at Hell than at the Pillows concert. When the hotel rep comes up to you in the middle of the show and just goes 'wow...' then it tells me that it does have a tad bit of popularity ;)

As to the 'multiple musical groups'. well sometimes it's one of those 'if you want X, you have to take W/Y/Z kinda situation'.

Gavv is right though, Anime Hell does draw a lot of people. And even though we had a full room at midnight, we didn't have a jam packed room (there were still some empty seats) I know that you want amvs to get a lot of exposure, but as we're already filling all the rooms we have, its going to be hard asking for more space if you know what I mean. It doesn't mean that I won't ask (believe me I ask for more space every year)
