Change in the Anime Cental 2005 Primary showing.

Postby SailorDeath » Mon May 09, 2005 8:49 am

Hello everyone, with only a couple of days between now and anime central, things are kicking into overdrive. Also it is common for scheduling conflicts and changes to pop up last mintue. Due to one such incident, we have to move the AMV contest from main programming back to the AMV room. We sincerely apologise for any inconvienience that this may cause.

Also, please note that we will be having multiple showings throughout the course of the convention, so if you are unable to get a seat to the first showing, please return to a later showing.

I'll take "Things that suck" for ¥1000, Julius.

This is definitely quite a disappointment- both for the fact that the contest really should have at least one showing in Main Events and my concern over what will be going on in Main Events at the same time now (i.e., competing against it).

Yeah I know, after seeing how the first showing is the one that really needs the most attention (eg it's the one that was overcrowded) I was really hoping to get main programming at that time. But things seldom work out the way we want them to. The truth is, we got our own room so that we wouldn't have to use the main programming. I can reserve it, but if a need arises that would require us to move, then we move. Of course if the crowd grows each year, eventually we'll need to move to a bigger room, (actually the room we have this year is not the same as the one we had last year, it's actually bigger and more sound-proofy)

Well, at least we've got a bigger room this year. I remember the one last year being overcrowded almost constantly, especially during the contest showings. It's definitely nice that we have a room entirely for the use of AMV-related stuff, but I think that definitely shouldn't be a substitute for using Main Events for things that merit it (like the primary showing of the contest).

I'll talk to you offline later, but certainly a disappointment. I was really looking forward to the AMV contest returning to Main Events and it *not* being at 9 a.m. :P.

Oh well, life goes on and in reality, the contest is 10x better than a few years ago so overall I'm still very pleased with the progress you guys have made.

Yep... that's one good thing about running the contest and being Director of programming :D ....

But seriously, the top three events these days at any con is Cosplay contest, AMV contest and Concerts... And if you count up the total hours required for those, the main events room should have the time for it... that is the way I prioritze things at Animethon of which I an programming Director and thus the AMV gets a good time slot as does Cosplay... I just wish more conventions realzed that and I fully understand it being out of your hands :(

Are you really so eager to see Man-Faye or Sailor Bubba being used in AMVs?

..... Do not give ideas. Please we are already a demented enough community. Of course there is always the silly amndatory ingredient in AMV Iron chef competitions. *evil snicker*

As far as what the contest showings are up against I do have that information but I would need approval from my higher ups as the schedule to the best of my knowledge has not gone public.

As far as it being moved out of main, yes it sucks considering that main showing is probably going to fill quickly. And thing is after the rooms being used this year I don't think we have a whole lot larger availiable except going into the ballrooms used for the largest panels.

But if the room is massively packed again this year consistently enough it would be good grounds to try and get it in main programming. That is the best that can be done.

Sorry about this and I apologize for it happening the last minute.

Sure, why the hell not?

Maybe this move isn't so bad. At least in the AMV room, you have a slightly higher chance of having quality equipment...I still remember ACen 2003's contest (which was held in Main Programming) pretty well, because it taught me what a ground loop looked like in video. Not pretty.

None of it was really the fault of any staff, but the A/V equipment just wasn't up to it, and I don't think anyone had time to test the setup before putting on the contest...

Oh you should have heard the masquerade that year. The audio that year left a lot to be desired. So it wasn't just the video problems to contend with.

And yeah a lot of cons do forget the need to test amv's before the event. Simply to ensure the output is correct and also audio levels are much different for music as opposed to simple spoken voice used over microphones.

But yes the lack of equipment errors may prove a huge benefit. The main issue I think to be contended with is simply size. And the fire marshals in the past few years have been particularly stringent on large events such as Acen.

I'm hoping that I can see the videos this time in the room. Unfortunately I am a bit short so I had a really difficult time seeing over people's heads. If the rooms are like the video room projection-wise it should be okay.

Actually, last year's into had sailor bubba, and while searching Quu's archive I came across a hentai amv with man-faye, which we WILL be showing at the Too Hot For Acen segment. Actually there are loads of hentai videos on here, which is good. still not enough to fill 2 hours of time though... course this isn't counting the stuff we got from you guys per Outlaws requests for stuff.
