Otakon Contest Rituals

Postby The Floyd » Mon Apr 04, 2005 1:10 pm

My god, the Deadline is in a month and a half and I havn't even started editting yet... /cry

So what are some of the "rituals" you perform when preparing for the Otakon amv contest every year?

Me? I stock up on hot pockets and watch the previous year's winners and runner up's while taking a break from editing. (some people call this brainstorming; I call it desperation)

(And I bet you mods thought this was going to be an off topic thread  )

Me, my rituals consist of spending long hours of non-stop work and shooting pool while rendering previews. Oh and yes stock up on a lot of Code Red Mountain Dew. Insane isn't it and I don't have April 19-30 to edit because I have to go somewhere and I really have no choice in the matter. So less than a month for me with less than half of my vid done.

Decide on a video to make :P

Now that you mention it... I suppose one of mine is deciding what video to send (if I actually have more than one choice) :P

I have my anime club also do a mini contest to decide which one of my videos will attend Otakon that's what I did last year.

Basically what I do is I usually take 2 already released vids and 1 unreleased vid and show them to my anime club and have them decide which of my 3 most recent vids they like better and Fighting For Your Love won the little thing to get into the Otakon Pre-Screenings and at the Pre-Screenings it went on to the finals. Hopefully some fate will be with me this year when I enter Otakon again. The experience is one thing I will not forget.

My gosh!

I just make videos for the enjoyment on it and send in something I enjoyed making the most... And If I don't end up with a video done by the deadline, so be it...

Don't take me the wrong way. I do it for fun that's the main thing. After the video has been completed I send it to the conventions for the pride of seeing on the big screen and enjoy the others reactions. It also makes me happy when I have other people ask me how I did that vid or saying that I inspired them. The main reason I do it is because of how fun it is to interpret the lyrics and then tell a story and then watching it all come together.

trooth, I've always believed this. I can't edit when it isn't enjoyable. Thankfully, I'm finding more joy in editing again :)

hmm.. my ritual consists, of...
...expecting not to make the final cut...
...then decide not to enter...
...but just before the deadline come up with an idea...
...then make a quick simple video for the heck of it...
...then consider entering it...
...then decide not too... but enter it anyways...
...expect to not make the final cut...
...end up making the final cut...
...wonder why I made the final cut...
...than completely ruin my long history of never making the final cut...
...than end up not winning anything...
...think about it, and convince myself I shouldn't enter anymore...

so as it stands now, I have nothing new I'd enter... and I'm not expecting to make the final cut... and of course not! I haven't created anything new yet... or entered anything  hehehe :D

ultimately.. if I do make something it's not for the contest. the contest deadline is just the motivator to quickly complete the video project. so we will see.

Its really tough for me this year because I'm a videographer full time and as of late I've been working on the biggest video of the year for my shop. With that said, when I come hme every day I feel all burnt out on editing and decide to play a certain unltra popular online role-playing game  intsead. But now I have to buckle down and acually edit something together.
