Yeah I know, I really wish we did have the FTP, the reason we don't is due to the large cost involved in setting one up. Which means we'd probably have to go with a 3rd party. The reason we didn't try adn find something this year is primarily the result of Quu's retirement. I'm overloaded with stuff as it is with just getting the 24 hour room, Iron Chef, what we alreday have for the amv contest, add 30 hours a week for work, and 20 hours a week for classes and I have absolutely no time to do anything else. That's why I'm having Dan help me oout with a lot of the stuff. I decided to concentrate on the more pressing issues this year. Next year I'm going to try and find a way to get an ftp going for acen.

After finding out last night that there was an extension, I have more time to start one of my newer ideas (i've got 4 days off coming, up, and all I plan on doing is editing). Woo!

You could run one at home. Filezilla not only offers an ftp client but also has a free ftp server. The only costs would be a hishspeed cable connection which you already might have. The only downside is that your ISP might not like the sudden massive downloading you are doing. I don't know if this is a problem for you as it depends on if the ISP will notice and if they care that you download a lot. Typically they care if you are constantly uploading.

The other downside is the cost of keeping the server running and secure, which isn't nearly as easy as it sounds, especially for a public FTP.

Well the probelm with that is I have DSL, with only a 768k download pipe that's also shared with my brother. Plus it's a little to late to orchestrate that. If I want to do it right I'll need to build a website that does user accounts, ftp account, video record creation etc.

Though I am building a linux server at the moment, what I'm going to do with it I have no idea, but I can always contemplate the idea, the other big issue with the ftp is that I'm lackin in space to host all the submissions.

Currently the big HDD's are running on the primary system which I keep protected behind a firewall and I won't be opening up any ports on it soon for ftp access. Plus they house all of the AMVs we show in the video room.

I also use verizon as an ISP, and I get lots, (I'm talking 100 an hour) of hits from systems infected with all kinds of nasty things, so the firewall won't come down for anything.

The server I'm building could possibly be used for that but if I implemented something like that, I'd defintely be capping the speed and number of users that can connected to it. But the server is far from being ready, having never used linux before in my life, I'm plagued with lots of bugs/problems that I need to fix before I can put it up.

I have my own web server... so both the contests I run will have a common FTP site with different folders :D

Well...Apperently, according the the xpresspost reciept I have and entering the info online...I found out that my video is indeed already in the hands of acen. Now I just hope it is good enough to be played ^_^

EDIT: Although it appears that the entry form I printed out didn't have an e-mail address field. Guess I will have to fix that.

Sorry that was originally our fault, I have 3 other people look at it besides myself and all 4 of us didn't realize we had forgotten to put that field in, if you have mailed in your entry and didn't include an e-mail, send a message to outlawed at pobox.com and let him know which video was yours, I believe he said he had 2 vids that had no e-mails attached to them, and he's sending out confirmations when he gets them

The contest deadline has been extended to April 15. We must receive your entry and have it in our hands by then. There will be no further extensions. This deadline is firm and final no matter what.

Isn't it great that AMV contests aren't like real life in a way? No matter how little of your AMV is finished, the deadline will (almost) always be extended for you. I kinda wish the IRS was like that, to extend the deadline past April 15 sometimes. :)

I finished my ACen entry with the April 1 deadline in mind, and already sent in my entry. It's pretty sad that most of us are procrastinators in creating AMVs for contest.

Have you or outlawed considered using the method that Fanime is using ? No FTP needed: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=48760.

Yeah...I sent an e-mail already with my e-mail address as well as which video was mine. Hopefully that's good enough.

EDIT: I have a question about shown videos. Someone online said that a person would be notified about whether their video is going to be shown at the con...is that true?? The reason I am asking is cause I won't be able to attend, however a few friends are...but they don't want to go to the AMV contest unless they know my vid is going to be shown. >.>

I was just wondering if you do let people know ahead of time. If not...no big deal :P
