So the Video of the Year in this year's VCAs is....

"Shounen Bushido".

By God, that is the best (or worst?) example of a Pander (as in, "Pandering to the anime fan") video that I've ever seen. By that example "It's Tricky To Make a Music Video", another Pander video, should have been "Video of the Year" last year. Now I have to give credit where credit is due, and that Shounen Bushido is a fun AMV and a wonderfully edited video (but too much lip sync for even me to bear, and I've seen "Sappy Self Indulgence" a million times!).... but "Video of the Year"?

Well, there's no denying it, no matter what others may say -- videos with (well-executed) special effects are exponentially more likely to win awards than videos that use few or no special effects at all. This is why I enter contests to be nominated; at least with the nomination my work has been validated by the judges.... but constantly seeing nominated videos with tons of special effects in contests really discourages me sometimes-- especially when your own video doesn't make the final cut. *sigh*

This is all just my opinion. Make of it what you will.

Do you complain about every contest you disagree with?

Most of the videos on your top 10 list are pretty effects intensive... hmmm?

Viewer's Choice Awards.

Viewer's Choice.

Viewer.

I leave the relevance and significance of that sentence decomposition as an exercise for whoever reads this. Hopefully, it's not too hard to figure out.

Do you really need several threads on the org AND a livejournal post to bitch about this? No. So I'm locking this. The people voted for the one they liked best. If you don't like that then tough.
