Kunicon Atlanta is looking for some help ^^

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime music video contests.

lets see...

* killing off the con registration fee for those competing and not at the
con seems suitable - note: registration is common in other cons as a
rule to submit. But I am doing away with
ours.

* contact VAT crew in AWA - Check - already sent an e-mail

* setup FTP server for entries - ok no problem.

* 1-2 backup systems to run the entire showing - ok, got that for Atlanta.

* enforce codec rules and be more stringent on the nastier codecs - I should have taken this suggestion more seriously - on its own was the main tech problem in St. Louis - the rules will be updated by tomorrow.

* don't push the final date back to May 13th leave the month in between.

these are all great suggestions. and I appreciate it.

I do see that someone mentioned not slowing down how many AMV contests we do. my original thought on that - if we do so many events potentially we could be asking for hundreds of vids - I thought potentially doing less would allow for more time to create newer work - and would also allow us proper time to continue to improve the contest.

do most of you agree - to do less AMV contests or to continue and keep it the same. 1 contest per event.

This will certainly help get more submissions. But the fact is that most cons don't require registration. I submitted works to about 10 contests last year, and only 2, including the then Otakucon, required money, and the other only needed $5 for the trophy (which is currently melting..... anyone else have this happen to an NDK Asuka?)

If you ditch the entrace fee like you say, I think you'll pry get more videos as well. If you have enough videos, I'd say have a contest at every convention, if for no other reason than the AMV Contest being a big hit with most con goers. I.E. The fans like AMV Contests, so have an AMV Contest.

 Mine's in (mostly) fine condition, and I've had it since 2003. Perhaps you can get a replacement statue from them?

No, but mine arrived in the mail in three pieces (stand, body, and head), and I've never gotten around to Super-Gluing them together.

Yeah, poor Asuka is completely bent backwards at the shins :( I'll see about contacting them, thanks for the tip.

You forgot

"* adopt mindset from deontological ethical theory and treat fans as ends in themselves, not as a means to profit, or at least provide convincing illusion of such"

Judging from the negative replies made towards Kunicon, that appearently is a bigger problem than any technical glitch.

there's a fundamental problem with the con and the business model.

It relies on the volunteerism and free content of fandom to produce resources indefinetly or it doesn't turn profit.

Conventional wisdom (no pun intendend) says nobody's making anime music videos or anime costumes or fan art simply to become an unpaid attraction in some third party's business venture.

I dunno how they plan to address this since it also causes animosity from others....

Nope, that one was the most important, although not a suggestion because we never looked at it that way. I wanted to quickly update everyone here where we are on AMV's

we had 34 videos entered and all have been judged and the winners have been defined in these categories:

Best of Show
Best Technical
Best Action
Best Drama
Best Action

In response to the above I got our organization to go Not-For-Profit. I completely forgot that the channels we released that info never came here.

Also I listened to a few of the suggestions that pointed out to go with trophies. so I went with clear crystalline and acrylic trophies.

We have our videos being burned to DVD to avoid a PC, but I have the PC as a backup. everything is ready to go. So i will see you guys there.

everything has been tested and retested. the playlist has been played through to ensure the quality of the viewing. Thanks to all the AMV studios on this board that have submitted suggestions in email, PM, or IM and to those that have called me with your suggestions. I appreciate it greatly.
