which contest to enter

Postby basterd!! » Sat Jan 22, 2005 1:22 am

ok i have finished my 6 month masterpiece and what to know which contest ( within the next 2-3 months) should i enter my video for? I wish to avoid trolling ( and indeed i see some contests prohibit it) so i wish to go up against others in a larger contest. Additionally i am eager to share my video with the amv community so i wish to enter a contest sooner rather than later so i can post the video online after the competition. Can anyone make some recommendations. thanx

I'd suggest finding a con you can go to. It's only that much better to actually see your video in front of others. http://www.fansview.com/consked.htm

It's only trolling if your video has won before in another contest or was entered the year before. Since it hasn't even premiered, you shouldn't concern yourself with that.

*shameless plug*

if your masterpiece is good enough to get Best of Show in Kunicon St. Louis - you win a 30" LCD HDTV!

I would also suggest www.anime-cons.com aside from www.afansview.com since you can get a good complete listing of all contests as well as the calender here.

I was thinking about making a dynamic flowchart based on contest rules and entry dates to optimize the number of cos one video could be entered in within the limitations of each con (i.e if video X hasn't been shown in cons A and B after the mailing date of it to con C it can play in it because as of the time of dilivery it was unpremiered). The sheer amount of data and the nuances of wordings (from a legal definition standpoint) would make this process enoumous and - as i'm a lazy bastard - it's probably not an atainable task. But it's fun to think about. right?

when to enter

The general guideline I go by on when to enter a contest...

1. If you are entering the contest.

2. If it's one of the MAJOR conventions/Contest. Usually AX, Otakon and AWA are seen as the Major ones that everyone enters to.

3. A convention that asks for/begs for more entries on the forums here.

4. A contest with a restictive theme, that would limit the number of videos they may get from people who attend. (Such as Yaoi-con).
