Anime Boston 2005 Contest Rules Are Now Up!

Postby adferraro » Wed Dec 22, 2004 11:29 am

Hi Everyone,

Your friendly AB contest coordinator here. I just wanted to let everyone know that the rules for the AB contest are now up and can be found at:

http://www.animeboston.com/events/amv/

New this year is digital submissions via FTP. We will be taking them!

You can start submitting entries on January 1st, 2005 and the deadline for the contest is March 1st, 2005.

I hope to see a lot of you at the convention, and also hope to have a lot of entries this year!

Cheers!

Adam Ferraro

*28-days-to-go-bump*

One month to go and my computer is STILL in the US getting repairs. I should get it back with enough time to finish one video, but I don't know about the second...

I'm submitting a video that will probably be DQ'ed (for language issues, specifically).

But it's worth a try anyhow.

...if you think it's going to be DQed, why not get the radio edit or otherwise censor it before you submit? Or ask Adam beforehand and let him hear the lyrics. Saves you the trouble of postage...

Well, it's not a song that would get any radio play(except maybe on some acollege station somewhere), so a radio edit would be quite impossible. And censoring it myself...I'm very against that idea.

But yeah, I guess I should just ask. Most people likely wouldn't notice a "bad word" has been said without reading the lyrics, but...I guess some might.

So, if we want to submit over FTP we need to compress the vid in mpg? I want to send in 2 vids but since I don't have the Huffy file anymore and both of them are Xvid first pass compressed it'd mess up the quality if compressed again. Is there anyway to change the rules for eletronic submission a little?

It's doubtful that they'll do this, as most rules are dictated by what they're capable of playing.

I'm pretty sure you can convert Xvid to mpeg somehow, though I've never tried it.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Use TMPEG fo convert your xvid avi into an mpeg2 file. Just keep the bitrate high and if you see any artifacting at all in your xvid file run it through some virtualdub filters to smooth it out as much as possible before compressing to mpeg2.

Yeh I know about that. I tried, but mpeg can't handle so much motion and colours well. There's plenty of degradation unfortunately even if I put the bitrate to 5000 :?. It doesn't matter really, I'm close to finishing a new vid so I'll just send in that one.

Hey bote, there's this older, free version of TMPEG that'll let you encode mpeg2's and the bit rate can go far above 5000 . . . (I think 9800 is for DVDs, but I can't remember :?) http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthr ... adid=27674
