just to start you off.

there are more details on the www.otakucon.com site

you can register for the convention and the contest online and submit your videos through the website.

there will be an extension of the date for the AMV contest. so get those videos ready, the con is around the corner!

P.S. We want AMV's from all over the world...the AMV contest will be simulcasted on www.animefurystudios.com and www.krradio.com during the event, so anyone anywhere can view the show and their videos if they are not able to make it to the event. there will be 2 feeds, one of the videos and one of the audience viewing the videos.

That TV would look nice in my dorm room, and that computer may actually be able to play Half-Life 2 :)

*Makes something in a hurry*

EDIT: Ok on the site it says today is the deadline, you mentioned an extension, any ideas?

EDIT #2: Ah, the reason I didn't submit to this one in the first place. "You must be registered to the convention to submit." Does this rule still go?

And considering that pre-reg ends today (it says 11.31.04 so I assume that today) and you have to be registered with the con to compete, it's pretty much past the point of entering....

Fear not...

the deadline is being changed tonight to December 15th and the registration deadline as well will be changed.

we were origianlly giving away a 30" LCD-HDTV but decided to go with a 42" Plasma FP.

so you guys have 2 weeks to get those videos cracking

you dont have to submit the video now

but you can register the video on the site and send an e-mail notifying us that the video is "in progress" and submit the file by 11:59PM December 15th

to answer another question, yes you would need to be registered to the con to compete. not to submit, if you are not registered your video will play but it will not be able to win anything :(. (we have to pay for the prizes somehow...lol)

ok, go run, dont read - crop, time, edit, RENDER!

Categories and such?

Postby Ashyukun » Tue Nov 30, 2004 3:58 pm

It kind of looks like the contest rules were never totally completed (or really looked over well...). For starters, right after saying (all quotes from the convention AMV contest page)

Video's must be submitted without any identifying factors…NO Bumpers!

The rules go on to explain...

Studio Bumpers utilized in the viewing should be no more than 15 seconds at the beginning of the video and no more than 15 seconds at the end of the video.

So, which is it?

And of particular interest to many people, I'm sure-

All the categories for the competition will be available shortly, and prizes are to be announced.

Could we get a listing of the categories? And what (if any) are the rules on videos that have been to other conventions/trolling rules?

And finally- the site merely says that you must be registered for the convention to be eligible to win- but nowhere does it say whether that has to be a full 3-day registration, or if a 1-day registration is acceptable.

I can answer the first of your questions for you, I'm pretty sure I read this just a bit farther down the page. They want for sure a NON-bumper video for the judging contest, but if you want bumpers for when they show them to the audience, then give them both a video with and without bumpers.

I'm pretty sure that's how I understood it.

I'd like to know as well about the 3-day or 1-day pass.

I don't mean to sound overly suspicious, but how can a convention afford to give a Plasma TV as their AMV Prize when a large convention like AX and Otakon give things such a trophies and plaques and are (I hear) strapped for cash with respect to prizes?

My guess is there was a deal struck somewhere or something along those lines, but it sounds a bit unrealistic.

If it turns out to be true, I'm definitely gonna regret not finishing the two videos on my HD

As tempting as that is, I'm afraid I still won't be able to attend. That's smack dab in the middle of Christmas break, which I go home for. I really wish the coordinators would have scheduled it for a more practical time. Even without the aspect of people leaving town for the holidays, you still have the fact that few can afford the expenses of a convention right before Christmas. Maybe if Otakucon '05 is held earlier in December, or pushed back a few weeks to early January, I'll look into heading down there for it.

Hmmm... Considering the cost of one of those puppies, uless it's sponsored how does the con justify going such a huge budget to a contest? A nice DVD burner would probably get just as many entires...

Just wondering, is this con that rich, please don't get me wrong, but just as a con organizer and AMV contest coordinator I find that kind of money could enrich a lot more than one event. If it is sponsored, then holly crap, you got one hell of a salesman on your team!

Again, this is not ment as a put down for such a nice prize, I'm just wondering myself how it came to be...

Well, Just because people ARE, curious... I think I'd like to hear that too.

although I really don't care if the thing "fell of a crate" and someone picked it up or not curiousity does stir up because of the overal response to this.

ok, for the curious, i will answer a few questions :D

1. We want to give a prize of this size because, we want to give to the community. We love Anime, and we love AMV's. I want the AMV community to be able to get a prize worthy of 2 months worth of work, rendering that video that crashes every 5 minutes! Why? I've been there. I've won certificates, and trophies, and DVD's. I sometimes dont care if I win a prize in a showing because i love the roar of a crowd that is moved by my videos.

So we here in ops decided to give a much bigger prize. this is one of them.

2. AX and Otakon dont give away a big prize. very true! We dont want to do what they do, while they are both incredible conventions. we are doing something very different. we want you to enjoy our convention, we want you to win big prizes. we want you to have such an experience at the con that it will linger in your mind until the coming of the end of days!

3. Actually it didnt fall out of a truck, we had to carry that heavy sucker off the truck ourselves and store it in our office. it will be at the con, the winner will walk away with it (assuming he can carry it...lol). also we are not rich, we work hard for every penny going into this convention.

4. the registration comment is very good, that will be corrected tonight. you will only need to register for the Saturday pass if you are not coming to the con $25. if you might be able to come to the con you can still upgrade to the weekend pass at the registration table.

the AMV contest will be simulcasted online in real time. so those of you that cannot come will get a chance to see it online, and will get a chance to see the audience reacting to your vids.

oh yeah dont mind that horrible lump of meat leaning on the screen, thats me - Manny, the new con chair, and i am excited about this event, we have tons of videos from all over, the competition will be fierce! so what are you doing reading this, im rambling - go edit your videos, and turn them in. Time is running out.

*Me drools*

Thanks so much for answering those questions :) So when we register for the convention, we'll be able to FTP our submissions then, correct?
