Oh yeah, if you do the contest Friday night, you should probably do the awards either later that night or on Saturday. As I said, there will probably be the least amount of people on Sunday, so fewer people will be able to be there to collect prizes if they win.

Sorry for the double post.

In the case that I will be unable to attend, I may submit the name of a proxy who shall recieve my awards and prizes in my name by filling out the form below

^ From the very form itself^

Yes. You may, but it doesn't say it's required.

Don't correct proper grammar. The convention, Anime Expo, is a singular entity; I've never been there, referring to the convention, which is implied by the sentence. Also, "I've" always contains a capital "I," so I don't know why you put curly brackets around it and changed it to lowercase.

By the way, when quoting someone but making alterations, you use straight brackets [] and not curly brackets {}.

so 1 vote for saturday as the awards day.

of course not, they won't force you to do anything you don't want to. Read the form, I gave you the link.
prizes will be awarded only to those in attendance at the convention.
and you completely ignored this quote. We won't give you a prize if you don't attend. You can submit, but you won't win. Thats just how it is. Same at Anime-Expo. Don't distort the truth.

Incorrect, you are misinterpreting the rules. At Anime Expo, according to the rules, you can win, but you won't get a prize if you neither attend nor have a proxy present.

If you win, and don't get a prize, whats the point? Its the same thing, since we have neither plaques, nor trophys. I can understand the "aestetics" of a win, but if you win, the prize goes to the runner up, so really, we are deciding who is runner up. Do you have a good wording I should put on the site to emphasis that?

Out of every award I have ever won, only once have I gotten any sort of prize.

To many people, the purpose of winning a contest isn't simply to receive cheap, meaningless trinkets which will gather dust and/or sit on a shelf.

x2 :P

in fact many creators don't care if they win or lose... just getting their video shown is good enough :P

:: nods at what Pwolf said ::

I'm too new still to have won any awards or anything, but I know for similar cases, it seems to be more about the honor of getting your video shown and recognized than a material prize.

If thats the consensus, we'll do the contest in a "runner-up" format.
Anyone can enter, but only members will recieve the prize(s). So the person whose movie was closest to the winner recieves the prize.

My problem is when the top three videos are non-member submissions, and the fourth video (perhaps in a category of four) recieves the prize. It dosn't seem to make sense to me.

We also have an excibition of old/non-enterent videos before the actual contest. If anyone wants to submit for that.(not a contest of any sort!) thats fine.

Thanks for the input

You can always just not give away a prize if the winner's not there to claim it.

x2, I know AUSA has a 'if you're not there and you win, you still win but no prize for you!' policy, that's why I had a proxy to spend my gift certificate in the dealer's room. And most cons are generally nice enough to mail out certificates/trophies, as well.

The prize shouldn't be anything more significant than a dealer's room gift certfiicate or something like that, anyhow. That way if the winner isn't there to get the prize, there's no harm/no foul, as nobody's losing money and nobody's bought a prize that now can't be given.
