I always thought applause meters were the most flawed way of judging a contest, esspecially if someone hasn't put enough blackspace before/after their video, and the next one starts shortly after, not giving the audience enough time to cheer. Also, the videos that will get the most applause by nature, are comedy. Though my past experience, I've never seen/heard the crowd scream their lungs out and clap their hardest after a drama/sentimental video. Also, applause meters make it more of a contest for the people in the audience that scream the loudest.
Not to say I won't enter the contest because it's done this way. I always enter in the Sakura Con ^^ Being that it takes place less than an hour away from me.
