I find it humorous that the person who deceived the community with a duplicate account and outright cheated someone out of a VCA nomination for "Rookie of the Year" is complaining about a contest being unfair.

Oh i'm sorry, all i heard was, bs bs bs bs bs I can't forget the past because i still choose to belive we're kiddies.

And ofcourse you'd take that point of view, you where one of the ones i was bitching about for christs sakes.

Btw, it wasnt rookie of the year, and btw, i made WAY too many apologies for that (when in reality all i had to do was apologize to phade and didnt HAVE to apologize to anyone else to keep my membership, but I accepted my mistake, and I TRIED to recitfy it BY apologizing, but i'm about sick of it) so how about you take your head outta your ass, and accept the fact that i'm not kissing your ass just because I made a mistake once.

I made too many apologies to even care anymore, and if you cant just drop it then you have more problems than I did buddy.

And I wasnt making an arguement, i was making a statement, an opinion, and an idea for next year overall (and btw, this isnt communist russia so i'm allowed too).

So back off me, and stop bringing me stealing somethign away from someone else, I've apologized, it happened i was NOT banned, and I DID apologize several SEVERAL times.

Oh boy, I expected this to happen. I'm just surprised it took so long for me to notice this thread ;p

My thoughts on it:

Personally I would have liked all the Pro entries to have been fresh entries for the contest made for the contest. But thats just because of the whole blind rule, and it just seems fair that way. Especially if the video is done by a creator that is wellknown in the cominuty. People may tend to be slightly biased, even if they don't intend to be, if they know their online budy created this entry. One of the reasons I entered the con was to test to see if I could make a video that could stand against some of the bigger named editors, if competing against them blinded. So yea, I do think there should be a similar rule in that respect as is with masters. However, 2 of the videos I still nominated, were shown at Otacon, so I did not let that realy influence my decision by a large degree, though I may have been slightly biased against those videos.

However, above stated is just my opinion as to what *I* think the contest should be like, AWA Expo is not MY contest, so I'm not gonna go badmouthing it or anything because its not run how I like it to be run. I would however suggest that the contest cordinators do consider this for their next one.

That being said, I think most of us (the creators) are mature enough to vote fairly on a video and not handicap it because we think this or that person did it. So I don't think it will be a big problem.

Oh And Addiction: I'm pretty sure I know wich vid is yours, and I did nominate it, so your wrong there ;p

As far as why I compete in contests? To get more exposure of course! If I don't win, I'll admit theres a degree of disapointment there, but that usually doesn't last very long. I'm happy just to get a vid shown at a contest, and hear the fans enjoying it. Its when I hear my vid get booed is the day I'll realy be depressed ;p Even if that were to happen though, its just a step to make myself better. I make videos for the fun of it. The reaction it receives at cons, is part of that fun. Sure getting a trophy or certificate, or other prize would be cool, but its not all there is to it. All it means is either a bunch of people liked your vid (Audience voting) or a bunch of judges liked it. Either way it all can be chalked up as experience.

Interestingly, I've made it as a finalist in all contests I've submitted to... but have yet to actually receive an award..... In that light, I could be in the worst predicament, almost like I'm just standing still and not improving ;p

Oh and, even if I don't win anything (which I think is very likely anyway, considering the competition in said categories) again here, Just the fact that there are 4 videos on those pro dvds that I absolutely love, and now have them in their full quality mpeg2 glory, just that alone would still make it all worth entering in the end.

I think the entire reason people make such a big deal about who wins what with what and how (myself included, im guilty of this as well), is because in general, awards = status.

I think all of us should step back and look at what exactly an award is and what it means. Who judges your video? Who decides to give you an award? Are these judges better than you? Nope. Are they more qualified to pass their judgement as official? Nope. They are just people who run a convention and like videos. Thats it. Given, some contests (thank heavens) take it way more serious than most (AWA, Otakon, ect) but for the most part, an award is given by a group of about 3-5 anime dorks in their 20's. And these people aren't even editors most of the time. I'm not going to debate why these people are giving awards as thats a whole different subject, but the point I'm trying to make is that the peice of paper, or the hunk of glass they send you doesn't mean much. I've got one and it was cool for about a day, then I got over it. How are people who aren't editors qualified to judge music videos? And even if they do like your video, what does that mean? Nothing in my opinion.

Awards may give you status, and people may know your name, but it doesn't give you respect. Theres a lot of terrible editors with awards, and theres brilliant editors without any awards, and everything in between. Winning an award doesn't make you hot shit.
