Yeah, I believe we were at 3. Also, looking at the schedule, it seems that Iron Chef is earlier this year as well. I seem to remember IC generally ending around 10 or 11, instead of at 8.

Well, that means you'll be less drunk and thus less effective at editing :P

Haha! Yes, I remember that. It wasn't just Vlad- I was wondering too... And I'm sure other people were, as well.

Pah - what a hardship. Vlad got it easy - the real worry was mine (and other people in comedy or various).

See, Vlad's missing banner could have said both Best Comedy AND Best Various which would have mean't that IWIWAL hadn't won anything (I didn't think for a second that it would win Best Video and sure enough I was right). So I had to wait through the videos to see if either of the categories came up later.

Thankfully Best Comedy appeared and resolved the issue for both of us.

Now that I think back it does seem that the awards are much earlier. I recall my panel last year being at 3 (or something like that) so I think the awards last year were at 5 or something. Oh and for those who dont know they show all the expo winners and then give the awards, then show the pro winners and give the awards and then show the masters entrants and then announce the winner. Usually.

True, actually I was in that bote as well since I had a video in the Various catagory as well. So I spent the whole thing wondering if I was still eligible for Best Various or if Vlad allready won it.

I know I entered one. I hope everyone enjoys it if it gets to the finals. And if not enjoy it if they have an overflow.

Yeah, same here.

Sorry if this has been answered, but how many go to finals?

If I remember the process correctly, there are no "finals", so to speak, in the Expo. All the videos submitted (assuming they aren't rejected for rule violations) are eligible for awards, which are decided on by the judges (VAT staff?). If they have time, they play all the videos submitted; if not, they make sure to play at least one video by each person who entered.

But I've never actually BEEN to AWA, and won't be going for a few years (in case there was still any confusion about that), so anyone who has, feel free to correct me if I'm in error.

Scintilla is right- there are no 'finals' for Expo. There aren't really any 'finals' at AWA period, to be technical. Masters is judged by 1 person with a panel's assitance, Pro is judged by those who entered it (kind of has a finals- but not that is shown to to a large audience as such), and Expo is judged by a group (VAT staffers or the likes). Only the winning videos are guaranteed* to be shown to the audience at the awards- though I imagine most of the videos get shown at some point or another through the course of the convention.

*-I have to star this for an exception that may be the case this year- if a video with content more risque than level that the con wants shown at the awards ceremony wins, I don't think it will be shown.

What are the prizes generally like in a contest of this nature? I check the website and the only prize specifically listed was the sport coat for the Masters.

Couple of points:

In expo we are certain to show at least one of your videos at the convention. We absolutely guarantee that at least one of your vids will be shown. Most are shown during the Expo blocks of time on Friday, some are saved for showing only at the awards ceremony, and anything with distinctly adult content (ie, would we get in trouble with someone if there's a 6-year old in the audience) are saved for a special late-night block. Pro we don't guarantee screening of all entries, but we haven't had to leave any out yet, since it has a block of time for contestants to be shown as well. Masters' is the same way.

Awards are: Certificates for Expo, Lucite awards for Pro, and the Masters' Jacket.

what would they do if they actually one year get so many unique entries that they can;t possibly play them all at the con? It could potentially get to that point, with all the new editors emerging on the scene recently.
