Clickable maps of AMV contests. USA, CANADA and EUROPE!

Postby Songbird21 » Sat Aug 28, 2004 3:34 am

I run a clickable map of Anime conventions that have AMV contests.

The maps now cover America, Canada and Europe (Many people requested Europe, so here it is. ^_^)!!

Please note: The Europe map is...erm...imperfect. There are a couple of countries that I just couldn't find the names of. And the lines on the map image I found were very thin so I had to re-draw most of them. As a result, some of the county borders are a little messy. Gomen nasai.

Also, there are way too many teeny tiny countries in Europe, so a lot of the smallest ones are labeled off the map itself with a line draw to point to the correct country. I apologize, but if I make the map too big it won't load fast enough for people with 56k connections.

The Europe map is NOT color coded yet. I'm too tired to do it tonight.

Since I know nothing of European cons I would love it if people would tell me about a couple. Any contests you submit MUST be held at physical conventions!

Hope you guys like it. As always, please lemme know what you think. I will be posting all future updates to the maps in this thread. ^_^\/

P.S- If you'd like to be on a mailing list to tell you when I add new cons just PM me with the subject: Con Map Mailing list.

Oop. Gomen. I'll fix it in the morning.

To everyone else...I added 3 German cons, 1 British con, 1 Finnish con and 1 French con. And the map is now color coded. :)

Oooo, I know these!

Between Croatia and <s>Serbia</s> Yugoslavia: Bosnia & Herzegovina (sp?)
Between Croatia and Albania: Montenegro (?)
Between Yugoslavia and Greece: Macedonia
The island labeled as Cyprus is actually Crete
Southeast of Bulgaria: the European part of Turkey
Between Poland and Lithuania: part of Russia

Great job songbird, this is greatly appreciated :)

The list I posted recently is not complete with contests, I know now that there are 2 amv-contests in Poland, another one in france and one in sweden, too. I'll try to find out the homepages of these conventions :)

There is an anime convention in Oregon, USA, called Kumoricon.

http://www.kumoricon.org

Unfortunately, their AMV contest deadline is way past (in fact the con itself is next week). But it is to note.

Yea, that's right, score a point for you :P

Including Montenegro.

Oh, and one of your abbreviated countries should be spelled as Slovenia.

Other than that, all good. I assumed there was a few more cons over there, though.

I've fixed most of the problems with labeling the countries that ppl have pointed out so far. Oh, and I drew Malta on the map. :)

If anyone sees any more mistake please feel free to let me know.

There are 2 other conventions in Florida that I know of which are not listed on your map. DreamCon in Jacksonville, and Anime Express in Daytona Beach. I know Anime Express has an AMV contest, cause I won best drama there this year. DreamCon is a Sci-fi con and I personally have not been to it, but they list an AMV contest on their events page.

I know, we have way too many conventions in Florida. ^_^;

Yeah. It should be renamed to conida. Lol. If it weren't for the way you guys get blasted by hurricanes (I hope this post finds you safe) I'd be damn tempted to move down there. Lol. Okay okay, the fact that you guys have giant mosquitoes might also have something to do with me not living there. Lol.

I'll try to get the new cons up tonight.

And to all the members in Florida, my prayers are with you.

Hey, just found out website & location of the contest in the Netherlands:
It's called Animecon or Anime 2005 (depending on the year of course) being held in Haarlem.
Website is here: http://www.animecon.nl/
They have an AMV-contest since 2001 already it seems... Paul Kievits is the contest coordinator, he surely knows more.

And yay, that is really not far away for me 8)
Attending is only a question of pocket money :D Why didn't I find that out earlier *smacks head to table*
