dwchang wrote:I think you're misinterpretting. He meant in category. He says that specifically above. The order in which videos are played in a category has nothing to do with "popularity." The event hasn't even taken place and thus no one has placed their votes.

He meant that the "least popular" category is going first. That would be Romance. The most popular would go last. That would be Comedy. This is a smart way to do things since it means people will stay through the videos to see comedy.

That is correct, I was talking about the different categories. How the order for the video within each category were ordered I have no idea. Geoff could have pulled names from a hat for all we know.

There's arguments that both being first and last have their good and bad points.

Being first: You get to make the first impression, so the entries following yours inevitably get compared with you (hopefully in your favor). Downside is: one of the more recent entries following you may float to the top in the manner of a 'Bubble Sort' algorithm.

Being last: Nobody comes after you, so you get to have a more enduring impression in the voters' minds. Downside is: the audience has seen several good videos before you came up, and they may have made up their minds already.

So that's what I've been doing wrong all this time... I should've used a bubblesort rather than a bogosort when submitting my entries for Otakon to guarantee my chances for victory.

While I'd have to agree that Humor is definitely the big crowd-pleaser, the idea behind putting Drama (Romance & Serious) first is so that the tenor of the contest would get faster as time went on, and end on a positive note: Romance, Drama, then Action, then Upbeat Action & finally Humor.

Yep, people will hang around for the comedy in larger numbers than they'll hang around for Action & Drama. Plus, if people only want to see the funny stuff, there'll be a bigger crowd at the end when it's time to applaud (and vote).

Well unfortunately I wont be able to make it to Otakon. I'll be in Seattle on my way to Alaska for some salmon fishing.

Bummer, didn't make it in.

Anime's Greatest Hits looked like it stood a chance. When I thought about what vid to send, I figured send in the once thats the most downloaded. When I did make the decision, that had about 1000 downloads. Oh well, better luck next year as they say. But I gotta get crackin on a new comedy vid concept. All I can say to the people that did make it, congrats and good luck in the contest itself.

P.S. - I ain't psychic, but I'm bettin Suberunker's Football! will be the big hit at Otakon same as AX 2004.

I believe that editor sent in their Golden Boy drama video (as seen by the video's description) to Otakon, not "Football!", so we won't be seeing Football in the comedy category (that Golden Boy video is a fine addition to the drama category, IMO).

DW or Vlad I have a question or to anyone else in Romantic/Sentimental is there going to be another challenge for the winner this year like last year where DW had to make the "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" AMV or was that just some goofy idea that willn't happend again. I think DW learned his lesson from what I read in his comment section of that vid. Let me know I'm curious.

Since it’s impossible to predict the votes of fandom, thus making such a bet in the first place is totally insane and ridiculous
