Well the comedy segment is already won!

Mr Oni

Never assume!
At a con were the name Westware can mingle in with Vlad Pohnert And DokiDoki..... nothing is for sure. (I hate using myself as an example since it's somewhat egotistical.... but screw it, I did good!)

Honestly I think it's up in the air, esspecially since Tim didn't do comedy this year (which was extreamly surprising to say the least).

All I really care about right now if having a larger voter turnout this year.
We have three contest screenings, with the big one Friday night able to hold 5,000 people. There BETTER be more than 500 voters this year.

Hopefully the way ballots are being distributed this year will help with that. We'll see.

Does this mean the ballots won't be included in the registration bag?

I always wondered why they never distributed them at the door. That way you know that everyone who actually went in and saw the AMVs would be the ones who vote, and considering a lot of people go see them, I would say that more than 500 votes would be in. I wonder how they are distributing them....

Traditionally they've been included in your registration materials (along with the book, schedule, etc.)

I'd rather have them be one-per-registration-bag; it's a lot more difficult for people to stuff "extra" ballots that way if there's only one per bag throughout the entire convention. Having them passed out at the door is just asking for problems with the voting integrity.

As for me they still aren't sure what they can do for my grandmother, but they are pretty sure it isn't cancerious so that's a good thing.

Well I'm coming to the con as my grandmother wishes. I have a good feeling about my grandmother that she is a strong person and will fight this and she'll be able to live with it for at the very least 2 years, if not longer. That's how confident I am in here.

Well I'll see you all there. Keep my grandmother in your prayers if you feel it will help. I'm praying for her every night. Thankyou to everyone for there support.

Gene Starwind 21122

The countdown begins. I, for one, am excited to see what everyone's videos look like on the big screen. Best of luck to everyone!

And Gene, my deepest best wishes go to you and your family. I had a similar experience with my father - I feel for you. You have to respect your grandmother's wishes and have a great time at Otakon, and it's our duty to make sure you do!

Hang in there!

Thankyou very much, but I do have some relieving news. They got a second opinion and they found out that it wasn't a tumar, it was some sever inflamation of my grandmothers gualbladder. And they said she'll be just fine. It was so big that it made it look like a tumar. I'm so relieve that she's going to be fine. I can't describe how relieved I am. Well now since I know my grandmother is going to be just fine and I've talked to her. It is only another 91 hours and 30 minutes to go.

Thankyou to everyone that gave me there support.

That's good to hear! Gaulbladder problems typically aren't that hard to overcome ... my mom had hers removed a few years ago and she was fine.

I look forward to seeing you there.

No they won't ^_^
Instead they will be distributed as you enter the room where the contest will be.

I am even told there will be plenty of pencils...... so there is NO EXCUSE not to vote!

Oh and asctually, the problem with having one in each bag is 1) People were loosing them, or leaving them in their hotel room. and 2) If you wanted to, you could just take someone elses ballot and vote (if you want to cheat and vote for yourself 100 times it's easy to do no matter how voting is done (unless you want judges...?). Of course if you are ever cought doing that.... no more AMV contest for you. I'm pretty sure that would be enough to ban someone from it in the future.

I can see Mike's point on handing them out @ the door, as per somebody might go in, leave, then come back in to double their vote sometime. Also, since there are going to be several screenings, a person could do this many times. However, I think I know a simple way to avoid that, which you all have probably thought of before: putting your badge number on the ballot. That way, no votes would be duplicated at all. Then again, someone could just go around trying to collect peoples badge numbers and then........

Now I know why I would never run an AMV contest @ a convention

I think I better stop now before my brain go splodey. (0_o).

See that's the thing... no matter what you come up with to try and solve the problem, someone can find a way around it.... but cheating isn't even an issue. I don't seriously think someone is going to go through all the trouble just for something like that.
The main reason it's being done differently is to get more people voting.

If it does not work, then maybe do something different next year.

Actually, I suggested to have then handed at the door, I think there will be a lot BIGGER return as I am sick of only 100 people or so voting for a winner... ALSO, my suggestion is that once the contest actually starts, you do not hand out any more ballots.. It's unfair at that point.. ALSO, if someone leave and drops the ballot off BEFORE the contests ends, DO NOT count it since that is unfair... That is how I did it at Animethon and I got a 50-60% Return

In terms of multiple voting, like Mike said, if you really want to cheat and "Stuff" the ballot box, you can just get several from your friends who don't care about voting... Frankly I think the mass of return votes will outwieght a few people from voting twice or so... And creators who cheat that way should not even bother showing thier faces!

PENCILS is also good, most of the time poeple do not have a pen handy and thus do not vote... JUST MAKE SURE to have someone at the door(s0 after collecting the ballots and pencils and you'll do fine....

ALSO, I was wondering if there will be any pre-seating for the finalists (or event entrants) in the contest on Firday night (the main showing).. I lot of cons do that (Including the two I run) and I always think of it as a fair exchange for creators who enter making it what the contest is in the first place...
