Overall it was a good contest... but there were ALOT of bad points...

Second... Mindwarp's United States of Whatever! Oh my! That was shown at the Semi-finals. It some how didn't make the finals. The reaction it got at the semi-finals was amazing. If it was in the finals it could have won the comedy category, based on the reaction it got from the semi final audience (they almost gave it a standing ovation). It could have easily beaten half the videos in the comedy category, so why the heck wasn't it in the finals? Alot of people were wondering this.

Anneke

Wow Really? That's amazing! I saw the finals list here on another thread and saw that only my Drunk With Love had made into the finals.

I was wondering why Naruto's United State of Whatever

Shit I hit the wrong button.

Anyways, back to what I was saying. I saw that Naruto's United State of Whatever had not made it to the finals but I really didn't give it much thought since Drunk With Love had already made it in.

I just simply thought there were better comedy videos than mine and didn't think too much about it.

Almost a standing ovation? Neato!

If people missed videos from a category, they should not be allowed to vote for that category.

That should be mine... actually I don't know much about american conventions, but this is just the thing with viewers votings and there's not really much the coordinators can do about it ^^
I've still got to see every video entered in action and according to other peoples comments to my video at conneko it was possibly pretty hard to judge for the viewers, too.
And beside those facts, according to the list of entries my video was the only fun one in action, maybe that affected the viewers a bit more.

All I can do is assumptions >_<

Well, after thingking about if for a while, I suppose "Love is a Battlefield" is basically a Drama video with action... Originally I was making it as a pour action video, but as I worked on it, more and more dramatic elements pervailed..

As long as people enjoyed it is what counts.. Expecially since it is an older anime to an 80s song

To counter what Anneke said, you did get an Honorable Mention in Action at Anime Central and that was based on Judges, not viewers. That basically means another video got more "first place" votes at ACen, but the judges did agree it was a "second" or "third place."

I wasn't at Fanime and don't claim to know the quality of the videos there, but I saw this video at Anime Central and certainly can agree it's a top-notch action video. It's one of *me looks* three videos I've downloaded, watched and kept in the last three months.

At the same time, I don't understand why people feel the need to degrade videos in a contest in a public forum. I can understand praise, but degrading them and saying things were "robbed" isn't very courteous.

Anyway, congrats to all the winners. Maybe I'll submit one day, but that'll mean I'm coming up and I don't see that for awhile ;).

JCD, I am not surprised at all your video won best action. It was my 2nd choice for best action, and I thought it was an awesome video (see my brief set of reviews I posted to the AMV Mailing list on Sunday). Your award was well deserved. Don't let anneke's crap bother you; I don't.

The perfect blue video was mine. That video has been shown at a few conventions allready without any problems. Its been getting great reviews here at the org. I even cleared that video with the co-ordinators before I sent it in. I had a censored version that I offered to send but was told that the non-censored version wansn't a problem. Your the first person to really complain about it that I've heard of. I'm sorry it offended you but you just need to chill out. Its just animated. You missed the whole point of the video, but i didn't expect some people to get it as they would have gotten to hung up on the nudity as you did.

I think I saw the censored version of the video at Anime Central and there were people complaining there and on their forums. It was censored and I personally had no problems with it, but it looks like some parents did (even censored).

Either way, if you cleared it with the coordinator, I don't really see anything "wrong" on your part.

Since when did crap = opinion? Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion, and there will always be someone who didn't like a video as much as someone else.

I've seen your Perfect Blue video in the past, and it's definately a very good video and strongly emotional AMV. However, I would never show it in public because of the content. I thought Anime Boston rejected it due to content? Even though it is animated, who's to say that you can't show something very deep and emotional through animation? That's what Perfect Blue did. You have to take into consideration that she is not the only person to be offended by this video, and that the contest was not PG-13 and will offend people.

Didn't say it was his fault. It was the contest's fault for allowing the video to be shown. I have no problem with nudity (I make Yaoi and Hentai AMVs).

Perfect Blue is not PG-13 material, because of the situations that are covered. The medium used (anime) to cover such issues doesn't matter. You can say it's just a cartoon/anime, but it's still dealing with adult situations.

My problem was that such situations were shown to children. If I was a parent, I would be upset if my thirteen year old, or my seven year old saw the video. Guess what, at Fanime, because it's a large convention you do get children that young in the audience. Now we can't make videos all G rated, but they need to atleast be PG-13.

If you noticed I said these were problems with the contest, not the video.

As for the action video... It's not a bad video, however other videos did get clearly larger audience response. However they didn't have the larger audience. Again it's the contest that should have regulated that people, who missed the begining videos should not have voted on the category. They even said that some videos won by a difference of only 4 votes. (And trust me, more then 4 people came in after the first videos were shown.)
