AFO5 AMV Contest - Orlando FL

Postby efathefinger » Thu May 27, 2004 7:30 pm

Hi, I am going to be running the AMV contest at Anime Festival Orlando this year. My intention is to run a fun contest with less drama. You must pre-register for AFO in order to be judged, but you may submit videos for exhibition if you would like.

http://www.animefestivalorlando.com/

Please join us for what should be another great year. If you have had differences with how the contest has been run in years past, feel free to drop me a line and I'll try to make you feel welcome again.

The pre-reg discount for the convention ends on June 20, and the first AMV contest deadline is July 9th. Please see the convention web page and click on "Contests" and "Anime Music Video Contest" for details.

I'm not going to rule anything in or out. If we get more than two entries (which is all we got last year that were actually hentai), I'd be happy to have a hentai contest. Thats why I put "TBD" on other catagories.

I was surprised to find your video on the contest disk, I had seen it from AWA, but I didn't realize you submitted to AFO. I use it whenever I need to describe a real hentai AMV when people start talking about cheesecake.

My main goal is to have a quality contest and less drama.

(If we do have the hentai contest, I think I'll probably have the lights a little higher than JACON just to avoid problems. :-)

Well, despite what you might think, I wish you good luck at it. Hopefully you won't have the unexpected (which it was to me) break in the middle of the contest screening to announce the cosplay winners this year.

And, for the record, that little fiasco was the reason I resigned from all AFO duties.

Though I'm not sure why you keep mentioning less drama though. As far as I knew there was no drama involved in the contest in previous years either.

If that's just meant as a slight on me, I hoped you were above that. But, whatever, to each his own. This is the last and only time I'll comment on anything AFO related.

Like I said, good luck and I hope it goes well. Just want to urge everyone to participate this year, just like I've done every year previous.

Less drama = more fun. Nothing implied.

I'll be submitting some videos. AFO has been one of my favorite contests to go to and I hope it stays that way. I'm looking forward to it.

Hmm... so, if I had fun at last years contest does it mean I'll have more fun this year, or less?

*Ponders*

I'll be there either way.

not sure if I'll make it to afo this year as I'll be preparing for a big move in August. if I have anything new that hasn't been screened by then, I'll try to send something for exhibition at least.

didn't catch the contest last year (don't remember why. lol) but if am there you can bet I'll be at the contest. ^_^

Well, there were some glitches in last years contest which I hope will not be repeated, so I'd expect that you would have more fun.

Of course, it would be stupid of me to say otherwise, now wouldn't it?

The new hotel facility looks great, I'm going to try and get a huge screen and nail the audio, tech setup is what I enjoy doing at conventions (when I'm working).

Of course, the contest depends on video entries, so make sure you enter, and mention the contest to anyone who might have missed it.

Indeed, including the contest discs wandering off afterwards. I wonder how that happened...

Seriously, though, good luck with the contest this year. If I wasn't overseas, I'd send this year's offering in for exposition, but it already got some on this side of the ocean, so it's Otakon-ho.

Jeez. I just pulled a Nabbe. Okay, I just marked that Friends Only as it should have been. I'm sorry about that. As for the contest discs, they were left in the a/v pit, I just failed to return them, and after the convention it didn't seem like there was a point, right?

I do expect that this years quality will be as high as any contest around.

And, please submit your video for exhibition. Not many of the people who attend AFO will have been to Otakon, or will be at AWA, so it will be their best opportunity to see the good stuff.

Ummm...I'm not going to AWA either, and I somehow don't feel the least bit deprived. As far as sending my video to AFO, I did so in the past because I had friends attending who could fill me in on crowd reaction (aka the big reason I send vids to cons). Since none of them are going this year, I don't have much incentive to submit, especially as doing so sets me back about $10.50 per submission (thank you international post...)

In the meantime, I think there's been enough posting for the drama impaired on this thread. And anybody who is curious about the above post with dead link should feel free to PM me.

I'd just like to announce that I've confirmed my three judges for the AFO AMV contest.

Returning for his third year, Sushiboy Jared. Recognized for his excellent entries into the AWA masters competitions and an expert at audio composition.

Also returning will be Joey Snackpants. Mr Snackpants is a notorious AMV personality and creator and is well known for his elite attitude toward video quality.

New this year will be Cobheran, recent winner in the JACON AMV contest for best Action entry. He will bring his youthful exuberance to balance out the years of experience of the other two judges.

If you're familiar with the Orlando anime club scene, you'll realize that all three judges are from different clubs, and are not affiliated with the group which produces AFO. I'm proud to be helping reduce the drama in my community.

As a creator that isn't part of the whole Orlando anime club scene, I'm curious as to what drama you are refering to. There were those idiots that interupted the AMV contest for some stupid costume contest anouncement, but I blame the AFO heads for that one, not the AMV people. Clue me in, I must have missed something.
