Horror Contest: Cash Prizes

Postby billy_wires » Fri Mar 19, 2004 3:18 am

Yup, that's right. Maybe it is because of the painkillers I'm on from oral surgery, but I want to hold an internet contest in which I view videos, judge them with an esteemed panel of judges, and name a winner. Here are the rules:

1. Serious entries only
I am really going to offer a cash prize, however small it is. So thusly I should deserve serious entries. It just flows.
2. Must be a horror video
It must fit into the horror genre.
3. Deadlines and other restrictions
I want all videos in as soon as possible, but no later than June 30. I want to see videos made specifically for my contest, thus preferably not one that has been seen before. As far as anime and music, anything goes, as long as it fits into the .org rules.
4. In order to be accepted, you must...
First you must ask for a spot in my contest. I will be taking the first ten. You may drop out at anytime, but please try not to join if you can't commit. There will be only ten. The only way I can see the videos is if they are uploaded here. That is why they must follow .org rules. Once your video is ready, you must notify me that you uploaded it so I know it is there. You do not have to tell me what anime/music you are using in order to enter.
5. Judging
I will be judging mostly based on whether or not I like your video. Quality and relevance will play a part, too, so watch out for that. The panel will include mostly my friends from around town, but if anyone wants to judge and isn't involved in the contest they can PM me.
6. Prizes
I lied, the prizes aren't exactly cash. I hate sending cash, so I will use a money order. The prizes go as follows:
1st place gets $20.
2nd place gets $10.
3rd place gets $5.
If you are in another country, I will send an international money order. Also, I will use this contest as an excuse to donate to Phade, because he is the reason I can do this, that and I am stealing his bandwidth.

If there is anything unclear, then by all means ask. Also, the winners will be notified publicly, but they must PM me their information to accept a prize. In closing, I just want to say good luck, and have fun.

P.S. This contest is not meant to compete with or outdo any other contest floating about. Also, it will not interfere with opinions or videos I am working on (Project Kut-up, and the other six I owe ops to).

Is anyone interested at all? Damn, if I had known that no one would do it I would have selected a different category. If this gets to the second page it is considered dead by me, or what I mean to say is that I will cancel the contest.

This is probably why not a lot of people are interested. Gore is an important and valid subgenre of horror, and gore videos by definition either suck or fail to meet .org acceptibility. I'm sure you can download videos by normal http/ftp as well as the Donut, so you might want to clarify this rule to be "must be available online".

I have two, maybe three videos that fit within the purview of this contest, and all of them are far too extreme for local hosting. I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
Death... is Just The Beginning | so essentially it works like bacon

I never thought of that. Damn, maybe I'll hold off on this contest for a while. Never mind, I called it off. I might hold a better contest in a few weeks.

the most bizzare or different idea contest would interesting.

No over used series

No Corney canned video ideas
- paino keys
- a billion phades
- etc

No music that's not already on the org
(this includes Band and Song)

(now that's interesting)
