VCA Category Suggestion a complete Waste?

Postby Fluxmeister » Mon Jan 19, 2004 10:56 am

What is the point of one making category suggestions if every year the same exact set ends up in the list? Why did I spend the time to come up with remotely unique categories if they are all just automatically shot down?

What's the point?

As I said to doki: BOORRRRRRRRRRRRING
I have sinned. I made a video I wanted to make that was music + anime + sync + action + effects/transitions. Oh lordy. :roll:

I was wondering that too. I was expecting that Best Epic video and Multi-Editor to be one of the categories.

Yes my loins are quivering in anticipation of an official response as well.

What happend to:

Best Short
Best Epic
Best Multi-Editor Project
Excellence in Simplicity
Most Innovative.

These are excellent catagories and have absolutely no reason to be disqualified. Why were they? This is most upsetting.

There are more categories than last year, actually- but yes not many more.

Multi-editor project is difficult because the projects dont have single database entries, as pointed out before.

Epic was restricting because of the definition (over 5 mins? Who's going to check?)

Most Innovative was very close to Most Original Concept...

However, there was a larger concern that reduced the overall number of categories... the amount of prizes. If ADV had come through and donated some prizes it would have been easier to have extra categories but with the amount of dvds it would have been unfair for only some categories to have DVD prizes.

Hey, I'd like some of the other categories in too - I even suggested some of them :) But I do think some people might get pissy if they win the category that doesnt get a dvd.

In all honesty I think the administration is dead wrong in that assumption. But hey, its done. Thanks for clearing it up AD.

SELECT Video
FROM orgDatabase
WHERE video.vidlength >= 5mins

(or vid length <= 1min)

:roll:

:wink:

(and yes my syntax is likely wrong :P)

Only direct links and local mpg files have data on file length.

It's also a big of a silly limitation - what if a video was 4 mins 59 seconds? It could still be epic.

Anyway, this isnt about the exact category or categories - a certain amount could be maintained with prizes so the most important/clearest/most distinct categories were picked by Phade.

Just explaining the reasoning.

Excellence in Simplicity was one of my suggested categories - I would have really liked that one to have gone through but you can't have everything.

What was the reasoning behind shooting down Best Adult?

I dont know about that one, MJ - you'd have to ask Phade.

Because you'd win, hands down. No competition.
