third earth wrote:dude what commercial email am i sending out? i'm not selling viagra or penis pumps. i was asking 8 people. 8 people i emailed mind you. all who run amv sites. if they would be interested in doing a video for me.
and then i made this post. if that is spamming. then whatever.
i run an indie label out of my living room. i'm not sony or mca. how else do you suggest i asked the people on those sites? if the 45 seconds it took you to read my request was a strain on your life, i'm sorry for wasting your time.
i don't really wanna argue about this. i just don't really understand why you're being such an asshole. but i guess you are right that's you right.
Just because you're "indie" doesn't mean you're not "commercial." You, a commercial entity, sent unsolicited e-mail to eight people, requesting that they do something illegal for your profit.
How do you ask people? You post here. But when people have already received your messages and think of you as a joke because you sent them unsolicited e-mail before posting here, don't be surprised if we treat you as one when you arrive.
If you'd known anything about the medium before you sent the spam, you would've known better than to spam known editors.
I'm not being an asshole, I'm simply a concerned individual making direct - albeit sarcastic - responses to someone who quite obviously has not fully thought through his or her requests or method of said requests, and who shirks the English language like one would shirk jury duty in an anarchaic nation.
You may see yourself as trying to benefit musical talent, but I ask you: What benefit does the musical talent gain through the creation of a video that the band is not legally allowed to show anywhere, or for any reason? How can a band's name get out when it can't show its videos? Rather, you could have simply stated that you're running an indie label, and you wish to recruit people to help edit _music videos_ - drop the word "anime." I'm sure your musical acts already have some video footage from converts or whatnot, you'd just need to find people to make the sucky VHS-recordings _look good,_ and maybe add in some public-domain or home-recorded stuff, or a small enough amount of appropriated footage so as to be legal. I assure you, there are people on these forums with the talent to do just that. However, you did not think things through, you chose an invalid path, and you are now receiving ridicule from people who all believe you to be a joke - because we had discussed your eight unsolicited commercial e-mail messages before your arrival on these forums, and what you had asked and the method in which you had asked appeared too stupid to the trained eye to be worth any more than ridicule.
I admit, you probably had good intentions. But along with good intentions must come good actions and good presentation of said actions, else the intention is worthless.
...And, for your information, I get plenty of spam that's not about viagra or penis pumps. Some of it is about loans.
