How were the AMVs at Otakon?

Postby rubyeye » Sat Aug 09, 2003 10:54 pm

Man....everybody is bitchin' about how disappointed they are regarding the studio panels (lack of) announcements at the AnimeOnDVD forum.

So, since I haven't posted in a while, I'd just like to know everyone's general impression about the Music Videos instead. Good, bad, so-so??

I know the official post of winners and links will be up tomorrow, or some time next week, but I'd just like to get a head's up of the actual event.

Oh, yeah...I thought it was interesting that John Oppliger of AN Entertainment said they are looking into including a fan music video with DVD 3 of Risky Safety (due in November).

Any takers??

I'm not sure about the rest of them, but I can tell you that there was an absolutely terrible Evangelion video in the romance category...

It's 2:21 AM (-ish) on the east coast, I bet they're all drunk :)

I personally thought that it was very good this year. There were hardly any videos that were painful to watch, and those that came closest to such were just a little bit mundane at times. I was disappointed with the award ceremony, though. They didnt even read off the awards, they just showed the winning videos. Not even any runner-ups.

OK, here's what Rinny has told me:

"let's see...glory of love, the trigun superman video, the top gun one... it's tricky, and lollipops, sunshine and rrrRRRrrr...or whatever its called"

Which would mean DWChang, dokidoki, BogoSort, .Skyfire and Grover should be happy.

So my guesses are:

Best Sentimental:
DWChang - Glory of Love - Escaflowne

Best Drama:
Grover - Searching

Best Action:
.Skyfire - The Need For Speed - Macross Plus et al

Best Upbeat:
BogoSort - It's tricky to make a music video - Various

Best Comedy:
Dokidoki - Lolipops Sunshine and rrrrrRRRRrrr - Card Captor Sakura

I can't swear by the categories though. Nor is this in any way official :)

It had to have been extremely close in a lot of categories. The romantic category was incredibly tough, as the top 3 contenders (IMO) were Rinny, Meri and Dwchang. Drama was surprising. I thought "Mad World" or "This is Tima" would take it, but the Trigun video was good as well. Action was definately gonna go the Macross video, as it was definately a crowd lover. Upbeat was another tough category. I thought Nappy's "Stop the Rock" would win, but "It's Tricky To Make A Music Video", another great video, took the award. Comedy was probably the toughest category, but Doki put together a very kickass video and it showed. All in all good stuff ^^ If you wanna read my Otakon report, feel free to check out my LJ report: [url]http://www.livejournal.com/users/fungie[url].

I can vouch for all but best Drama...all I know about Drama was that it was some Trigun video done to a song that mentions Superman :?
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Actually, it wasn't definite. I was told that Vic's Noir video only lost by 6 or 7 votes.
